Stage 2. Radiation starts on Thursday. I will know more after that. When radiation is over, my MD will start me on hormone treatment for 10 years as my estrogen level was 97%. I am 75. My tumors on the right were 9 cm, 6 cm, and 6 cm. and growing at 18% in 3 weeks. But my bra size went from a C cup to an A cup in three months. My tumors on the left were little...9mm, 6mm, and 2 mm. My bra size went from a C to a B on that side in about the same time frame. I am used to playing tennis, bocci, tap dancing, exercising every day, balance class, etc.....now I am not allowed to do any of that as I am still healing. I hurt, hurt, hurt. My sister found something about PMPS but I think it is too early to diagnose that; the MD report has erythema on it....I am red/blue and really gross looking (I finally looked!). My belly is protruding. I just have to get use to this new body I guess. I am usually a very positive person, but I am struggling because of the pain. I am sure part of this is fear. Thanks for listening. Smiles.

@gailmarienewton yes, your body has been through a battle for sure, but the good news is, the worst is over! Once you're rested & healed, you should be able to resume your activities & get your mojo back! But one step at a time, right? As far as the radiation & hormone blockers, those are pretty easy. I had 5 days of radiation & I take a half-dose of Tamoxifen (10 mg) & I'm doing fine. Sending best wishes! Keep up the good fight & let us know how you're doing! 😊

Yes, it always felt that after my lumpectomy, the surgeon also removed a third gear. Always tired after an activity.
But I’ve talked to friends who did NOT have cancer who are 65+ and older who have slowed down and lost some pep.
I always wonder if it’s the cancer recovery or just old age.

Hi ,
I had my radiation 2 years ago on chest wall, (mastectomy) axilla, neck and other spots where the radio oncologist thought there were cancer! There has been a lot of ups and downs. It has caused nerve damage in my arm and hand as well as lymphodema. A couple of months ago I finally got to see a neurologist. He said there was new research showing HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen treatment) can be helpful for treating radiation fibrosis. Which I thought sounded very positive. You breath 100% oxygen under pressure, for 2 hours, 5 days a week. for up to forty sessions. I have recently returned from that treatment. I was meant to do 40 session but got increasingly more sick feeling, with pain in my gut. In the end I had to stop at 31 sessions. It has not helped my nerve damage and the other breast which has a large lump in it, has gone purply blue, like a bruise at the bottom part of it. The reason I responded to this post is that I also feel that the fibrosis has come back making me puffed out doing my regular, normal exercises. Has anyone else had experience with HBOT??

Hi
You certainly had a lot more extensive surgery than I did. Have you tried red light therapy at all. I did red light therapy on my underarm and chest where my surgery was when I came home probably a month later and honestly it helped a lot. I don't know if you have a holistic clinic where you live but if you do it's worth checking out because it really does help repair. Sorry you're having such a struggle. I also did ionic foot cleanse to get all the crap out of my system. And I'm doing that every year now 4 sessions twice a year

Hi
All my energy was 100% prior to this cancer treatment. I've always worked out. I also have fibro so I think that affects my system more so since radiation. I'm in Canada so the weather's been crap all winter hardly any sun cold damp. So hopefully once the nicer weather gets here and we can spend time outdoors the energy will get better. But I must say since I've been doing my regular work outs I definitely am feeling better than I did prior to not working out.

New issue. I have erythema really badly on my left side. Right side is not so bad. It hurts on top of the regular hurt. I am not sure what to do. My sister and a doctor friend think I may have PMPS because I never complain....I have been in treatment with leukemia for over 5 years and I never complain. This really hurts. I looked at myself two days ago finally....I look like a monster....that is a bummer, too.

Hi Gail, I am 82 and just had two lumpectomies and have started radiation, so I know your fear. The surgery went well, radiation is a struggle, but I will make it. It is hard getting used to our body changes reminds me of being 13. The best of everything for you. Believe.

I was getting Magnesium treatments along with my Herceptin infusion. My Mag levels were very low. After Her emptiness went on Mag 400 prescription. After 6 months it finally got just over where it’s not considered too low. They did not refill my script. Have been feeling like I am going to pass out past few weeks and finally thought must be my Mag. I ordered Mag Glycibate High Absobtion. 100 mg. Had 100 mgthis am and don’t feel faint.will take another in pm. Mag blood work is not normally included in book tests. Ask for a script to check it ?

@coolhurst Thank you. I am 75. I just learned on top of everything else that I also have high=grade DCIS with comedonecrosis from a MD portal report. I am learning about this on top of everything else. I just feel not myself. That would really help......

I am about to start radiation. I had my mastectomies 3 weeks ago today. I have chemo/immunity/iron deficiency treatments tomorrow at the cancer center as I have leukemia. I get a pet scan of my brain on Tuesday. I start radiation on Thursday. My tumors on the right right side were 9 cm, 6 cm, and 6 cm. The left side tumors were little--9 mm, 6 mm, 2mm. I am hurting, bruised, swollen, and very tired. After radiation is done, I start hormone treatment....for up to 10 years. I just need some advise from people who have gone through this process. I am at a loss...usually a very positive person...very active in my community....but now I have zero energy and feel like I am in a cloud. Any suggestions would be lovely....books are not helping.

I’m sorry you’re going through that. I didn’t have as many challenges as you.
I had large tumors in my right breast and had a single mastectomy followed by 33 radiation treatments. I had radiation burns, but they healed. I went to physical therapy and began taking aromatase inhibitors. Like you I had lost energy and I didn’t have interest in things. I was horribly depressed. It took me about 7 months to get past that. I didn’t have support from my medical community with anything other than surgery and PT. They told me to get outside for 30 minutes a day. I started walking. And this site really helped me.
Just remember it’s one day at a time and every day is a new gift.
I’m wishing you the best.
