Post PT Pelvic Floor/Core Exercises

Posted by jayhall @jayhall, Jul 9 9:02am

I just got done with my Dr. Approved PT for Pelvic Floor/Core Exercises. They gave me exercises to do on my own Kegels and some Core training. I'm considering getting back to an exercise routine that would consist of some cardio and core strength training. If you have done this how did you approach a personal trainer about it? I want to be very specific with them that I am looking to work my Pelvic floor and my core. I'm not looking to gain muscle etc. I'm just looking to get some supervision on the exercises and then go from there.

Thanks for explaining your thinking and decision making < 3 . At the moment we are battling $5600 Decipher test fee, for some reason insurance decided not to cover it at the end. I guess our "great" urologist on purpose did not declare it necessary since we insisted on it and he told us that he does not think we need it. We have $2,500 deductible so at this point we are already approaching over $ 8,000 even without future possible costs for this year. Our insurance never covers 100% even after deductible. Our cards are maxed due to inflation and cost rise first during pandemic and now due to invented "measures". I had some health issues also this year, also have $2,500 deductible and actually I canceled my foot surgery because we will not be able to pay for it on top of everything. As people in my old country say: "One can stretch as much as a comforter allows ." 😉

So sorry, insurance is such a scam. I know that the actual cost of all this is like 10% of what insurance tells us and, in the end, it'd be far cheaper to pay out of pocket for everything. I blew through the entire household deductible of $9600 in December and then did it again in January, $20K cash out of pocket in two months when I know that the urologist gets paid like $1,200 for the entire surgery that the insurance tries to tell me is worth $35K.

I did Kegels for the 1st few years but it wasn't enough. I got a prescription for physical therapy and Medicare covered it. This was a great help. Go for it!

Have you contacted Veracyte (the owners of Decipher) about that? In the brochure on their website they talk about a Veracyte Access program and my understanding from the table there is that the maximal costs to the patient should be $295:

WOW - thank you soooo much !!!! I will check it ASAP ! I am grateful beyond words can express, I hope it is not too late now, or something like that. Insurance and hospitals always find a way to sneak in some "small print" : ((. We did sign a request for the test while we were still in state of shock after that catastrophic office visit, so who knows what we signed : (((. Original doctor (regular urologist) did not want to order it but we insisted on having it and I am glad that we did since there are actually cases with cribriform and low Decipher that I recently saw. I forgot where I saw it, but I remember that I was than doubly happy that we did Decipher. We would do it even if insurance did not cover it and even if it was this outrageous amount. It is such an important test !!! It is just that I know that it could not possibly be this amount. This hospital is charging arm and leg for everything ! Even doctors that work for this hospital make comments on that and advise patients to do lab and MRI etc. in a WalkIn labs and other clinics.

I hope it works out. It would be almost criminal if the hospital charged such a huge mark-up for sending your slides to decipher.

My insurance paid for Decipher but not PSMA. I had to pay $5,300 (down from $15,000 sticker price) out of my own pocket. I was also still under shock from my G8 diagnosis at the time and willing to pay pretty much anything. Outside the US, a self-paid PSMA costs $1,500…..

I highly recommend using a rowing machine to strengthen your pelvic muscles. It's also a pretty good overall exercise. When I started rowing, I saw steady improvement in continence recovery.
