Post knee surgery - worse vision

Posted by thisfatoldlady @thisfatoldlady, Nov 18 9:48am

Had a total knee replacement and ever since I've had to wear my glasses 24/7. Pre-surgery I almost never wore my glasses because my eyesight was so much better after cataract surgery. What's going on?

My wife had a TKR eight years ago with nerve complications. Up until then she had excellent oral health with close to perfect teeth. In the aftermath, the inflammation caused by the surgical trauma has impacted her oral health. For example, she needed a tooth implant but after two attempts by a skilled oral surgeon, her body simply rejected it. She has become a patient at Mayo simply to address neuromas and stiffness resulting from the TKR.
All this may be irrelevant to your issue, but the interconnected nature of the human body is all too real. My only suggestion is to engage an eye professional who is not going to immediately dismiss the possibility that your knee surgery may have had a broader impact on your health.
Best of luck.

Thank you so much. I came out of surgery with a bunch of different issues - not directly related to the knee replacement, but which I am sure are linked to the trauma of surgery. They seem to be clearing up, one by one. I have a good eye doctor, and I hope he will take this seriously. I am so sorry that your wife is having to deal with all of this and I hope Mayo can give her some help.
