Post-Covid dizziness/off-balance, as most troubling symptom
I contracted Covid in December 2021 and am currently dealing with persistent dizziness (off balance, sometimes feels like swaying, rocking, spinning, or a pull to one side). My other most bothersome symptoms are ear ringing, headaches (pressure in the head), feelings of pressure change in my ears, trouble multitasking or thinking, along with developing anxiety/ depression and some elevated heart rate and blood pressure.
Dizziness was not a symptom of my initial infection. I developed dizziness (not BPPV) around January 15th. I saw a physical therapist who determined I had Vestibular Hypofunction and I began vestibular therapy. It seemed to be working and I even returned to my office job for about 3 weeks, restricted hours. Two weeks ago I began feeling worse again. My physical therapist believes my initial issue has improved - so he doesn't know what's causing my current onset of symptoms. I started an antihistamine to combat any allergy related ear fluid, along with an anxiety medication to try and improve my blood pressure and heart rate.
I'm going to see an ENT next, and hope that I haven't waited too long to try other remedies (if there are any). Has anyone else experienced this overwhelming dizziness and had positive results with treatment or answers as to the cause? I'm scared that this is going to be how I feel forever.

I am a 42 yr old woman and experienced most of the same symptoms. The actual ‘positive’ Covid phase was nothing, just a couple sniffles and coughs. Highly active runner and gym enthusiast. My VO2 was 41. Post covid 2-3 weeks later could not breathe, severe tinnitus, irregular heartbeat. VO2 dropped to 23. This lasted months and contributed to a severe blood pressure problems. I live in a rural area where dr’s do not take homeopathic remedies seriously, so I took it upon myself to do my own research into long covid and medical studies. Water fasting had shown proven results to eliminate LC completely after 7 days so that’s what I did. I did a 3 day water fast, followed by a 3 day 24 hr fast, and then followed that with a 4 day water fast. (It was during my kids’ spring break so I had to eat one time a day with them for at least 3 days). It completely took away all my symptoms. I will say though though that I am not LC free. Every time I over stress myself by exercising too much or fast longer than 24 hrs my Long Covid death rattle comes back, but no heart issues and VO2 is still in the 40s. Stress is definitely a Long Covid trigger, but I can 100% tell you, If you want to get rid of the heart irregularities and cough do a water fast. Still experiencing tinnitus, hopefully will go away in the near future.
My LC symptoms disappeared last fall when LC did, so no heart irregularities or other and my biking/hiking/etc are back to normal. Good that the water fast works for you. I did not find any scientific articles that support that water fasting has an effect on covid or LC, so I would appreciate any links. I'm a scientist so find it all quite interesting. Effects of stress on diseases is under researched. Having celiac, I know stress can have a big impact (as can nasty gluten bits). Exercise, stress reduction, and eating well are all important (I avoid processed foods and eat mostly FODMAP).
I am interested in what happens when an antihistamine is take due to dizziness. I am going on 3 years of dizziness that seems to get worse when I have chronic stuffy head. So, I am going to try benydril to see if that helps. Has anyone else tried this?
Fall of 2023 I started diarrhea which lasted about 3 months and was finally stopped with consistent use of Imodium after searching for a cause. No cause ever found.
January of 2024 started what I describe as brain fog or fogginess or dizziness and balance issues. Vertigo is what some people call it but I don't swirl and throw up, I'm just in a constant, 24/7, fog. During 2024 I went to a balance center where they did MRI and hearing tests and hot and cold water in the ears and came away with no diagnosis but verifying a damaged left ear, which has been damaged since early childhood. Physical Therapy with colored words on 3x5 cards did not help the condition and, as I found out, was simply trying to teach me how to live with the condition. No answers.
Recently, 3/10/25, with Drs orders, went off my Lisinopril BP medication to see if the dizziness side effect was the issue. I had cut the Lisinopril in half earlier with no change.
Dizziness with no diagnosed cause seems to be a problem for many folks I interact with weekly.
I had my first bout of Covid in January 2021. Extreme vertigo and coughing, fatigue, loss of smell and taste were the first signs. I have had issues with vertigo previous to Covid and used the Eply maneuver to combat same. The maneuver is not pleasant, but it worked. I proceeded to get two jabs (Pfizer) and then got two more bouts of Covid - so much for safe and effective. I am in Canada and have been told I have long Covid. I have experienced vertigo and extreme coughing throughout. The fatigue and brain fog are also issues. I can't handle too much stress, too many people, too much noise or visual stimulation or wide-open white spaces like malls as the dizziness is off the charts then. Also, can't get too tired or hungry - too much of anything is just too much!! When I have asked my doctors (respiratory specialist and cough doctor) if this is long Covid or vaccine injury, I hit a wall. No one wants to step up and say there is a possibility of injury as that puts their job on the line. They are trying to solve the cough using Pantoloc and Dexlansoprazole because I do have acid reflux but neither has stopped the cough. From the extreme coughing I am now told I also have severe esophageal dysmotility. The coughing also makes me dizzy. I still use the Eply maneuver (you can see videos online) but there are times it does not work. This last month the dizziness has increased and it makes me so tired. Forgive my cynicism but I think the so-called vaccines were not made for Covid but rather Covid was manufactured for the vaccines.
I, like you, had COVID before the vaccine and slowly got more dizzy, but could walk. After a few months, I had to use a cane or rollator to get along without falling. I have sought out treatment all over the country , and so far have had no luck. I went to lots of physical therapists and neurologists and am no better today than when I first got dizzy and vertigo. I am frustrated and hope to find something eventually.
Yes, I had (have) that like you’re on a boat feeling but it’s subsiding. I contracted Covid in December of 2022 and on day 2 of the virus, lost my taste and smell. Before loosing my taste/smell completely however, I noticed with my first Covid Vaccine that I detected a metal taste in the back of my throat. My Mom and sister experienced the same and all 3 of us lost our taste and smell with Covid. It’s June of 2025 and my Mom who just had a pacemaker put in (96 years old) is getting hers back! My sister and I, unfortunately still don’t. I also suffer from Long Covid now, along with no taste/smell. I also suffer from Hashimoto’s and Hypothyroidism. I control my Hypothyroidism with 75 mcg of Synthroid. Symptoms from Hashimoto’s include fatigue and balance and so does Long Covid. I’m pretty sure the balance issues are from Long Covid and drinking Electrolytes does help that. I use LMNT which I order on Amazon. It has Potassium, Magnesium and Sodium (1000 mg) which is high, so be cautious if you have high blood pressure. I don’t have any quick fixes, but I believe that in time, we will hopefully all be back to our old selves or not! Seems to be the way things are going. Some of us will get our senses back and some of us won’t. Nobody seems to know why yet.🤨
I experienced dizziness, balance and walking difficulties after I had Covid twice in the same year (22-23). My balance has been greatly improved by three reflexology treatments. I still have other symptoms, but this one was very disturbing since I didn't want to use a cane or a walker. The other improvement came when I started heel to toe walking and swinging my arms. My previous shuffling was causing the balance problems to be worse.
I have many of your symptoms. Stay with it.

Thank you. I know I shouldn't complain because many people have much worse than I. I would really like to know if this is a vaccine injury or just long Covid effects. I'm tired of governments, media and pharma/medical lying to us. There have been so many things we were told that have now been disproven and there is no apology forthcoming. Also, here in Canada, I'm sure you heard of the truckers' convoy which went to our capital, Ottawa to demand mandates and so much of the idiocy stop. Many of them and those who donated had bank accounts frozen and lost jobs.
How long have you had your symptoms and wondering what your back story i? I find the vertigo so tiring. I have good days and bad but on the bad, the constant effort of trying to keep your balance is wearing. Whine, whine, whine - and I'll have a little cheese with that!! 🙂
Take care.
