Post ablation heartburn

Posted by osgilian @osgilian, 6 days ago

Hi everyone, I am 2 weeks out from an ablation and am encountering some very unpleasant heartburn. I take 40 mg/day Nexium for pre-existing reflux but this heartburn is occurring in spite of the Nexium. Anyone have experience with post-ablation heartburn; any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks.

I am 1 month from PFA and I’ve notice an uptick in dry mouth at night due to dehydration and acid reflux. I found taking two teaspoons of liquid antacid has helped right after dinner and water during the early morning hours after I pee helps. But it is an issue.

@7pamd Thanks for your reply. Which liquid antacid are you using?

I so empathize with you. For months after my first ablation, i could hardly bear the reflux. I had to sleep sitting up and couldn't eat. I lost 18 lbs out of original 130. PPIs made it worst. It took months to resolve. First ablation wss bad experience done in local hosp. Believe reflux, and other diaphragm issues, were result of inept anesthesia care

I have also noted an uptick in GERD both when my afib 11da event started and after cardioversion and ablation. Sitting up was the only thing that helped at times - sometimes Pepcid ac helped more than the ppi. 6 weeks out, in NSR, it’s getting better. Hugs.
