Positive vibes ONLY thread

POV: I’m often left stressed and scared after reading this forum. It occurred to me that most of the people posting here have had bad experiences and wonder if people who have good experiences aren’t on a forum? I was listening to a podcast and the person casually threw out that she had OP and had a year of a certain medication NBD all good. She’s not a spokesperson for drugs and it was good to hear. If 75% of women have osteoporosis/penia surely there are good results out there? My PT, Dr and my endo were all like why are you so upset? You’ll be fine! But after I spend time here I’m faced with gloom and doom and feel awful. Hit me with your good stuff!

I will keep you updated on where I go from here. I go to the Osteoporosis/Bone Doctor in early March. I have been making notes. I have tons of questions for her. This forum has been such a blessing of information and a lot of that information has raised questions I want to address. It will be a looong appointment.

I feel good, but not perfect. Very hunched over, organ crowding. shortness of breath and fear of more fractures. I'm hoping, March 4th's appointment with the bone doctor will be good news.
If so, and a DEXA Scan shows great improvement, we move on to "can I get my back straight again"? I know it would be a tough procedure and long recovery, but I'm ready to start the process and hubby is all in.
I don't have a lot of pain. I have discomfort. I can't sit in a wooden chair for long. I can't stand at the kitchen sink for long or get down on my hands and knees. I haven't slept in a bed for more than two years, worn a bra (not complaining about that..lol) ridden my bike or done any type of gardening, sitting in the car for more than an hour is uncomfortable.
But I am very optimistic and positive about whatever my next step is.
As far as what's the next preventive treatment.....who knows. There are so many. I'd like to do the once a year Reclast. I will do whatever the doctor recommends and question why she feels that particular treatment is best for me.
I've been going down this osteoporosis road for several years now and have learned to speak up, ask questions and take notes, notes, notes! I also have a good relationship with my pharmacist. He explains all the vitamin supplements, when to take them and what not to mix with other medications.
I will update you as things happen.
I hope you are doing well also.

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis at age 42 (1993) after breast cancer treatments. I took Evista for 25 years - I really didn't see any improvement. My dexa scans only got worse. They know so much more now than they did about osteoporosis and treatments. I am 75 now - I do a Bone Density class at the gym. We lift weights, do cardio and balance exercises. I walk 3 - 5 miles a day. My last dexa scan showed a 30% improvement. I now only have osteopenia. Drugs are fine if they are helping you - but I have found that I needed to be proactive and also do something!

I am 75 years old and was diagnosed with osteoporosis 10 years ago. I was told that my bones were that of an 85 year-old. I was told I needed to get on osteoporosis drugs right away. I researched all of the options and the potential side effects were terrifying. I ignored that advice and 10 years later, I experienced my first spinal fracture. It was a minor one but so very painful and it shocked me into reality.

I decided to start forteo injections in January 2026. I was braced 4 horrible side effects, sickness, pain, who knows what all

It has been six months now daily injections, and I have only had slight nausea occasionally. For some reason, I am sleeping much better than I did before.
The needle is tiny. I inject into my outer and inner thighs, alternatively. I am so pleasantly surprised.

Since my last post, I have had major surgery and could not be happier. My back is straight, I can sleep in a bed, wear normal clothes, no constipation, I can breathe and do most things I used to do, I should start Physical Therapy in a few weeks and I think that will help with some of the stiffness.

I had the best surgeons, nurses, therapists, etc., a good support group when I got home and all is good.

I have a long recovery ahead and I feel positive about it.

GOOD VIBES ALL AROUND!!
