Positive Evenity results after 10 months of treatment 🎉

Posted by phxmom @phxmom, Nov 22, 2025

I was shocked when I was diagnosed with osteoporosis at only 53. I've always been active, tennis, yoga, Pilates..but also was always considered "small boned." I think for me it was a combination of genetics, a bout of hyperthyroidism mistaken for hot flashes and menopause that contributed to my diagnosis. My numbers were so shocking for a person my age Evenity was suggested as the best option for me. To be honest I was scared to start treatment , but I am so grateful now that I did. I just got the results of my dexa scan, after 10 months of evenity - a 25.5% improvement in my spine (only slight improvement in my total hip and femoral neck) and I am thrilled!! I still have two more rounds of injections remaining and then I'm not sure what I will go on next to preserve the results - suggestions appreciated.
Here are my before and after:

Region Exam Age BMD T-score BMD Change BMD Change
Date g/cm2 vs Baseline vs Previous
AP Spine (L1-L4)
11/14/2025 54 0.884 -1.5 0.180 (25.5%)* 0.180 (25.5%)*
09/26/2024 53 0.704 -3.1
Total Hip (Left)
11/14/2025 54 0.636 -2.5 0.014 (2.2%) 0.014 (2.2%)
09/26/2024 53 0.623 -2.6
Femoral Neck (Left)
11/14/2025 54 0.657 -1.7 0.024 (3.7%) 0.024 (3.7%)
09/26/2024 53 0.634-1.9= 0.022 g/cm², LSC for Total Hip = 0.027 g/cm², LSC for Femoral Neck = 0.029 g/cm²

Impression: The patient has osteoporosis, based on the Left Total Hip T-score. The BMD for the AP Spine (L1-L4) increased by 25.5% since the last DXA exam. Bone mineral density of the lumbar spine may be elevated by degenerative change.

Discussion: SIGNIFICANT BMD GAIN OBSERVED In an untreated patient, BMD typically declines with age. A lack of decline or gain is usually a sign that treatment is efficacious and fracture risk is reduced. It is important to ask patients whether they are taking their medications and to encourage continued and appropriate compliance with their osteoporosis therapies to reduce fracture risk. It is also important to review their risk factors and encourage appropriate calcium and vitamin D intakes, exercise, fall prevention and other lifestyle measures.
Follow-Up: Consider a repeat BMD exam in 2 years or sooner if medically necessary, to reassess this patient's status.

I am holding off on the testosterone for now. Not crazy about those side effects.

@dianat no side effects except more energy. Maybe because I am on a low dose? I held off on trying it but saw a prominent doctor lecture on how important it is for women (including bone health) and that convinced me. So far so good.

@phxmom I wrote about Reclast because you had not mentioned if your doctor planned any other medication and I wrote what my doctor told me after I finished Evenity. What did your doctor suggest?

@naturegirl5 haven't had my follow up with my Endo yet. Just got my results. Will let you know what she recommends.

@beachesanddreams I chose to get the shots in my stomach. The two shots were administered simultaneously by two nurses. After my first round of injections I did have an allergic reaction around my stomach and down onto my thighs - red and puffy almost like a super bad sunburn plus itchy. Initially my doctor said that we would stop - but knowing this was the best option for me, I wanted to give it another try. Ever since my first round, I've been taking a Benadryl before and a Benadryl after and haven't had any more allergic reactions. The injections themselves aren't fun and the area is typically sensitive for a day or two after (sometimes a bit longer depending on the skill of the injector) but in the big scheme of things, at least in my case, it was a small price to pay. Good luck with your appt, keep us posted on your journey. 🙏

@phxmom How SMART to take the Benadryl before and after. I’m so glad it helped you.

Saw my new doc this morning. She is actually recommending Prolia with a calcium-rich diet and a supplement, plus bone-building exercise. My lumbar score was 3.0 and I’m osteopenic everywhere else, and because I tolerated one Prolia injection well already, she said that’s what she would do for her own mom, which was reassuring.

Still, I hear stories like yours, and wonder if I should do the Evenity for a year (Prolia would take a little longer to build back bone), and see what’s what. She did indicate I could do Evenity if the Prolia doesn’t yield the result she wants to see, so there’s that.

I’m so happy for you and your amazing progress. Definitely something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!
