Positional headache?
I have been experiencing what my Dr referred to as positional headaches. I first started experiencing this several months ago. They weren’t all the time but within the last few months more frequently. It is a sudden headache that comes on from a sitting to standing position. It can be pretty intense but only lasts about 30 seconds( I’ve been counting). I am always better when standing and moving around.
I am a pretty healthy 67 yr old. woman. I have some arthritis in joints.
I have an apt with a neurologist in June but would appreciate an ideas.

Hi, @pammy816 - I'm tagging members who have talked about positional headache or other positional neurologic ailments who might have some input related to what you were mentioning your doctor called positional headaches that occur when you go from sitting to standing with some intensity. Please meet, if you've not before, @sunnyflower @migraineelaine. It's possible @sepdvm also may know something about this type of headache.
I'm guessing, pammy816, that you are looking for tips on how to alleviate these types of headaches?
Hello Lisa,
Yes, I am certainly trying to find any information regarding alleviating these headaches. I would appreciate anyones input who has experienced these same type of headaches and the possible reasons behind them and how to proceed with the right kind of Doctor to help me. How do I reply to the names you gave me for input? Thank you for your help.
Hello @pammy816. I suggested that the Moderators move your question from Infectious Disease to Headaches and Migraines or Neuro to find more responses. That may take a few days. I have suffered headaches due to late side effects with fibrosis from radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. My headaches were developing at night while laying down though, and I have worked with new pillow types and rubbing Voltaren on my neck at bedtime and massage of neck, which altogether have improved the situation greatly. Your headaches, which are brief and in response to standing seem very different. A change in blood pressure perhaps? I think you are in the right boat waiting to see Neuro about this. What did your PCP think? Have you had any issues with low or high blood pressure in the past?
Thank you for responding and appreciate that you sent a message to the moderators to put this under migraines/headaches. I am not sure why it wasn’t placed there to begin with. I had an appointment 2 weeks ago with my PCP . When I had a physical last July, I spoke to her about it. She did say they are usually related to a blood pressure change. However, my blood pressure normal range most days and not on BP meds. They were much more pronounced these last 2 weeks so she has referred me to a neurologist in her practice. I am not experiencing other side effects other than some sinus this winter but they were present before that. I don’t have any other symptoms (ex: dizziness, balance issues, nausea, fever).

Hi Lisa,
Could you move my question to headaches/migraines group? Not sure how it ended up under infectious diseases.
Maybe that way more people will see and respond if they have had the same issue. Thank you
