Poked myself in eye, and then had Entropion after blepharitis cleaning
I'm 62, and I have blepharitis. I was about to do my usual cleaning and warm compresses on my lids when I accidentally poked myself in the eye with my finger on the outer and lower side of my sclera. It stung, and my eye got all bloodshot. So I waited a few hours for my eye to calm down and then proceeded with the cleaning and compresses. When I removed the compress on my poked eye, the lower lid had folded into the eye, and I could see the ends of my eyelashes sticking up against my eyeball -- I believe it's called entropion. It really freaked me out! I gently pulled down the lid, and it went back to its usual place. Is this something that can happen when an eye is irritated and the heat makes it worse? Or is this more serious? As far as I know, it hasn't happened again, unless while I was sleeping. Now I'm afraid to do my daily blepharitis treatment which will make my eye even more irritated. My eye doesn't hurt but there's still some minor discomfort where I poked it. What do you think?

My husband was just given that diagnoses on Wednesday. While in the office the doctor removed an eyelash that was going into his eyeball but that was before my husband started the compress treatment. In our case the two aren't connected. Perhaps just take your time and avoid making any unfortunate moves...good luck !
PS My husband washes his eyes with baby shampoo during his shower in an attempt to clean out the debris.

1 ReactionThanks, Casey. Are your husband’s eyes always inverted or does it just happen sometimes? May I ask how old he is? And is his entropy on age-related or from some other cause.
If you do get it in your eyes I think that the baby shampoo is create no to sting...good luck !
My husband is 72 and only once before had the eyelash go inward. Perhaps more from rubbing the eye but we really don't know. What I do know is that washing the eyes with the baby shampoo in the shower seems to help. He also puts Erythromycin ointment on his eye lids at night and Tobramycin drops in 3 times a day for one month. I think the drops are to make sue the eyelash removal area doesn't get infected. All of these things are helping to make his eyes less sensitive to light. He used to wear dark sunglasses indoors now he doesn't.

Yes, Valerie, what often seem to be simple directions rarely are. I’m struggling a bit with the baby shampoo situation too. When they say “mix it with water in even parts,” I’m only using one drop of shampoo, so how does adding a drop of water help. And what do I mix it in, and is it sterile? So now I need to sterilize a cup?

1 ReactionWhy not try this? Take a wet warm wash cloth put a few drops of baby shampoo on it and wipe your eyes with it . Then rise with plain warm water. Think of cleaning a baby...good luck !

I was diagnosed with blepharitis about 5 years ago and the best product I have found is Ocusoft lid scrubs. There are several different formulations but the one that works for me is a leave-on formula so I don't have to rinse and irritate my eyes. 1 ReactionI’ve given up on the baby shampoo. Even when diluted, it irritates my eyes significantly. I use warm compresses and then gently scrub them well with a wet cotton swab.

1 Reaction@lacy2 I only squeeze out a drop of baby shampoo onto my finger and wet that some more with a tiny bit of water and then wash the edges of closed eyes with the finger (s). its not perfect but does help clean .
