pneumonectomy recommended

Has anyone had lung removal due to MAC? I have deep cavitation and mine is drug resistant. I have been on drug therapy for over 1 year Azithromycin, Rifabutin and Ethambutol which is helping with symptoms. Started Amikacin about 2 months ago. I have had several doctors recommend surgery to remove the rest of my right lung. Was diagnosed and treated for lung cancer in 2018 and had a lobectomy upper right lobe. Radiation treatment damaged my lung and left me open to MAC. I am concerned having only one lung left and getting MAC again.

@mzim59 Welcome to Mayo Connect, I'm sorry that such a difficult decision has led you to chat with us.
If I was faced with a recommendation for such a drastic procedure, I would surely seek a second, and maybe even a third opinion. And, I would be sure at least one of the specialists looking at me was an expert in treating treatment resistant MAC.

Are you being seen by a clinic or practice that specializes in treating MAC?
