Pms or menopaus while on the pill?

Posted by emmabell @emmabell, Jun 2, 2023

I’m 38. I’ve been on the pill (Yasmin) for 10 years. I remember always having mild pms like symptoms starting a few days before the placebo week. I’m finding this odd. How does my body know I’m about to have my period when I’m on the pill?

Anyhow, the past 8 months, these pms like symptoms got A LOT worse. A few days before the placebo pill week, aside from the usual cramps etc, I feel like I have a fever, my heart is racing, I’m sweating, can’t sleep and am feeling really depressed. It continues throughout the placebo week and then gets better when I start the next chart of hormonal pills.

Any ideas what might be happening and what to do?

If it’s pms (is that’s even possible on the pill?) would I benefit from skipping the placebo week and take the hormonal pills continuously?

Or are these signs of menopaus? Should I quit the pill?

I would see a dr but due to personal reasons I won’t be able to for some time, which is why I’m looking for clues here.

Thank you!

Does your healthcare plan have a nurse help line? I'm assuming you are dependent on the pills for birth control? I don't see any guarantee that things would improve if you stopped.
I think you're right that you need to get to your doctor.
