Please supply prognosis of pneumonia with a Down syndrome

What is the prognosis of a 56 year old woman who aloso has Down syndrome with no other major issues sine birth

@william73leduc Welcome to Mayo Connect, I am glad you came here with your question, even though we cannot provide an exact answer for you.
If you have been involved with this person long enough to know her health history, you probably also know that pneumonia is a high risk illness for individual's with Down Syndrome due to the anomalies in the airways.
That said, an otherwise healthy person with DS does have an increased risk of mortality in the year after pneumonia, but you can help by making sure they are vaccinated against not only pneumonia, but other respiratory illnesses as well.
The statistics are a little hard to find, but it seems that at any age, without other co-morbidities, her risk is about twice that of a non-DS woman. If she survives the illness, with care her life should be able to continue with precautions against respiratory infections.
