Please describe PMR pain if you are taking Buprenorphine as your pain.

I'm 79. I've had PMR since mid 2025. I've been up and down to 1/2 mg with Prednisone twice. Kidneys are at stage 3 failure and holding. My doctor wants me off Prednisone...me too. He's suggesting, with enthusiasm, Buprenorphine. Buprenorphine is primarily used to help those addicted to opioids get off them. They have begun to used as pain meds as well. I see my doc 09/01 for a conversation.

I use a buprenorphine patch 10 . It’s mainly for osteoarthritis and severe back deterioration. I think it just takes the edge of and I notice if I don’t take it. I think my PMR pain is mostly treated with the steroids but if I am having a flare I don’t think the patch helps the deep aching of PMR. For me Orimorph helps most when I am in severe pain. Sorry not to be more helpful.

@twistedwillow

Thx, helpful as I'm not taking buprenorphine yet. My doc wants me off prednisone. We are eye to eye on 09/01 to discuss. Lots of adiction on both sides of my family. I read and my doc tells me buprenorphine shoould no be adictive. Have you any issue with it being adictive?

I haven’t noticed it being addictive but I take oro morphine and I haven’t had addictive feelings with that. I take it only as prescribed and only when I am in severe pain. That’s on top of the buprenorphine patch. But in my experience, and many others I think, these types of pain killers are not effective for PMR. There are other meds called DMARDS and biologics available especially in the USA
