Planning on a Repeat Tulsa if your first Tulsa Pro failed?
I've been searching for a definitive answer to, can you get a repeat Tulsa Pro. Found the answer from "2020 05 27 TULSA PRO WEBINAR with Q&A" uploaded 10 days ago.
Dr Klotz states "To the best of my knowledge (May 27, 2020) there are no patients who've been retreated with Tulsa*... [Tulsa Pro] really causes profound site of reduction. So you're talking about re-treating an average of a 3 cc prostate. I can see that there might be technical difficulties with that."
*There have been two repeat Tulsa procedures (reported online) since this 2020 webinar. I suspect Partial gland treatment and men with big prostates to start out with might qualify for repeats...

I don’t have a definitive answer! I had 30% of my 45 cc prostate treated by Tulsa. Mayo told me that Tulsa was definitely an option if the cancer were to return. This is what ChatGPT said about my specific situation.:
TULSA-PRO is possible if:
* The recurrence is small and localized
* It’s visible on MRI and/or confirmed on targeted biopsy
* It’s still confined to the prostate (no spread on imaging like PSMA PET scan)
* The anatomy still allows safe retreatment
* You strongly want to preserve urinary/sexual function
I was 4+3 when treated in 2024.

1 Reaction@jcf58 Oh I agree --you could get a repeat Tulsa. You had 30% of your 45 cc ablated. Meaning you had a Partial --more focal, actually. 30% of your 45cc prostate means there is still 70% (or 31-32 cc) for Tulsa Pro to *do* a repeat on.
By contrast had you gotten Whole gland ablation (90%), your post-treatment prostate would be 4 - 4.5 cc (approx size of one standard seedless grape). As Dr. Klotz said, "I can see that there might be technical difficulties with that."
Hope your Tulsa Pro holds all the way to the beach! 🌊🏄👍
