Places to stay near the Gonda building

Posted by sbtheplumber1 @sbtheplumber1, Oct 16 5:38pm

I finally got accepted to see an orthopedic doctor at the Gonda building . We would like a place with a pool for my 17 year old son ( is there any other teen attractions) I will be using my scooter (if I can take it in doctors offices ) or wheelchairs. Is the trolly wheelchair or scooter accessible ? Any suggestions would be appreciated I will be arriving on Nov 3-6?

Great news on getting an appointment at Mayo Rochester.

The Mayo buildings and underground subway are all wheelchair / scooter accessible. Some of the hotel shuttles accommodate wheelchairs, but would have to check with individual hotels. Your probably best to stay at hotel near downtown campus connected via subway. Most hotels have hotel rooms that are wheelchair accessible.

I recommend contacting Mayo Clinic's free concierge services for planning and recommendations:

Hope that helps, and I am sure you will get recommendations from other members of Connect that have stayed downtown.

Hi there,

Congrats on the appointment! My husband and I have been here for a week for appts with pulmonologist. We started at the Hyatt House on Civic Center Dr. Really inexpensive but a bit of a walk to Gonda and just a step up from a Travelodge type hotel. We moved to the Hilton on Wed and really love it. They have an indoor pool and a great fitness center. Easy walk through the skyways to Gonda. Double the price though so I would factor that in to the decision.

@lluth412 Thank you! Being that I can’t walk very far I’ll have to use a wheelchair or scooter . Is there wheelchairs available ? We thought about Kahler since it’s the closest but haven’t seen good reviews not sure I’d choose there plus they’re higher and charge $16 a day parking. If I bring my scooter will I be able to get around?

There are wheelchairs everywhere, in every hotel lobby and on most floors of Gonda. And lots of people using scooters and wheelchairs on the sidewalks around the hospital complex. Kahler Hotel is super close to the front entrance but it is undergoing renovation you can see from the street. The lobby of Kahler looks nice but I don’t know about the rooms. The Hilton is connected to Gonda by skyway and subway so would be easy to use a wheel chair/scooter (especially if the weather is bad). Also heads up that a train rolls into town next to Civic Center drive in the middle of the night so hotels near there have a nice wake up call about 3 am!

@lluth412 Definitely thanks for the heads up of the train ! Hilton was our next choice, unless we try going a few blocks away so my son can have things to do

The Hilton is connected to the skywalk and subway system, it’s beautiful and the staff are so helpful and friendly.
We came to Mayo for treatment and we know that the Hilton has helped us in our healing process.
We highly recommend them.

Yes
Hilton @ 10 E Center St
It’s very nice and everyone is so helpful and friendly.
I am looking at the beautiful Gonda building as I type this. Our inside door to door wheelchair commute for treatment at the Gonda is 10 - 15 minutes depending on ‘traffic’. 🙂
