Using Faith to deal with the diagnosis of lung cancer

place your life and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ

diagnosed with non-small cell cancer in upper right lung, after being a smoker for 50 years I was somehow not surprised as time went along the gravity of the circumstance hit me subsequently I began having anxiety and panic attacks a lot of doctors tell me this is a fairly common reaction I wasn't dealing with it well at first so I have placed my life and it's outcome and my faith in Jesus Christ he had been there with me every step of the way since I opened the door and ask him in

I truly understand what you’re saying having gone through the same process, I always worried about getting lung cancer but still I continued to smoke for over 40 years. I still remember how tormented I felt being addicted to cigarettes and feeling scared of getting sick, I finally did quit at age 61 and when I turned 69 I got lung cancer. I think that initially I was sort of numb and going through the process of getting help but eventually all the fear and anxiety kicked in full force and I started having meltdowns. I think it’s perhaps your mind taking things slow to help you get through it, I also found myself praying more than usual and I truly began to feel somewhat better. I’m not a very religious person but I do believe in prayer and talking to God about my fears, I don’t know if it’s coincidence but sometimes I feel like I’m getting answers to my prayers in subtle ways.

Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect @gscott49. The uncertainty and overall anxiety are often overwhelming. The weight of the diagnosis is heavy no matter what the stage or complexity. I'm glad that you found a source that can bring you some peace during this time. Have you received a treatment plan, or are you already into treatments?

I understand what you're saying. At 61 I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and had to undergo external beam radiation as well as 2 years of hormone therapy. Then while I was being treated for Prostate cancer, I was diagnosed with Upper Tract Urothelial Cancer, which is cancer of the Ureter between my bladder and left kidney. I had to go through chemotherapy for that one and i ended up losing one of my kidneys. I have a lot of side effects from both cancers. Last week A CT Scan of my lungs showed a 1 cm spiculated node in my right upper lobe, along with numerous other 4 and 5 mm nodes in the same place. I pray a lot and I truly believe God got me through the 2 prior cancers that I had at virtually the same time. I have Faith HE will get me through the next one. I too get subtle answers to my prayers. Maybe that's how it should be. The Lord has saved me from probable death many times in my past. I believe HE will continue to. God bless you and keep praying to God Almighty.

I have taken one round of chemotherapy and that was enough that poison kills everything good or bad I'm looking into the prospects of the immunotherapy, chemotherapy age to me about 25 years I would be a classic poster boy for the "many faces of chemotherapy"

isn't it amazing they use chemotherapy these drugs to fight off cancers and during the treatment all of a sudden another form shows up and you start fighting that one and then another one shows up God's word tells us that if we are faithful and obedient he will heal us

Thank you @gscott49 for your reply. God's word does say that anything we ask in His Name with sincerity, humility and a true love for Him will be answered. I was a lukewarm Christian for many years, but recently I have given all my cares and worries to God. I do sometimes worry, but I think that's only human. I've always believed in God and our Lord's sacrifice on the Cross, which was for all sinners. I do believe I am faithful and obedient, but sometimes doubts slip in. They are not long lived and I get rid of them as fast as I can pray. I was once a junkie, alcoholic, sex addict, pill popping adulterous sinner. God delivered me from that former life. I even became an Addictions Counselor at 52. I've been sober now since July 18th, 2009. I believe my sins are forgiven and I commune with God daily. God bless you.

all glory and honor to God the Father for helping you through your addiction I know it's a tough road to hold I've been down that road myself, occasionally want to Satan's minions will attack me because this life is a battleground and God has our back, the victory is already been gained through the crucifixion of Jesus Christ
