Peripheral sensory neuropathy - Anyone tried Walkasins?

Posted by ssjohns @ssjohns, Apr 25, 2023

I have recently been diagnosed with PSN and I’ve been searching for remedies. I am looking into the spinal cord stimulator and recently discovered a product called Walkasins by RxFunction. It is a prosthetic device you insert in your shoe which sends signals to your brain from the bottom of your feet. Looks promising for balance and gait issues and will help prevent falls because it enables you to feel your feet. This requires a doctors prescription and I assume is covered by insurance. Has anyone else use this product?

That has changed. We were put on a waiting list and they contacted us in December. Haven't tried yet but getting ready to meet with a rep.

My name is Gordon. I am 78 years old and have been wearing walkisins for around five years. They help keep me from falling when I am walking. Before I got them I took small steps, but now I walk at my normal pace. They do not necessarily stop me from falling getting out of a chair, starting to go up or down stairs. Once I am moving, they seem to keep me on the straight and narrow. Hope this helps. Gordon

WOW, sounds great. I never knew such an animal existed.
I filled out the form so I assume they'll be getting in contact with me, I hope.
How much does this product cost?
Thank you for bringing this item to my attention.
Take care,
Jake

@reddakota1: I am interested in Walkisins. Can you tell me what the cost fracture is? Does Medicare help with this prosthesis? Bette. dbamos1945

@jakedduck1 and @dbamos1945 - Back around 2017 we had one of the researchers who was developing the Walkasins as a speaker at our Minnesota Neuropathy Association. He brought along a prototype of the Walkasins and explained how it works. I wished it was more readily available and didn't cost so much. I think the VA covers it for veterans but not sure about other health insurance policies. More info on their website - https://rxfunction.com/our-product/.

From what I've been able to understand, Medicare does not cover this device and it's cost is $6000.

I can't tell you what the cost is. I am a Viet Nam veteran and get my Walkisins through the VA.
Don't know what they cost.
