Pelvic Floor PT, post RARP. How many sessions?
I've read of many people having Pelvic Floor Training (aka PT) for incontinence either before or after prostatectomy.
How many sessions did you have? More than once per week? For how many weeks?
I'm 7 weeks post-RP and am doing Kegels (best I know how) and would like to get the guidance from a PT expert. Trying to understand the typical duration.

I had 8 sessions 2 weekly for a month of Pelvic floor PT. The PT's also gave me daily Kegels to do at home during the time that I was getting. As far as I know you start with 8 sessions and then continue after that if you still need it.

2 ReactionsMy Pelvic floor PT was post op and the PT was more/different exercises that Kegels alone. I noticed an improvement in leaking about week 2 of the PT. I'm about 8 months post RARP and my last Leakage event was about 3 weeks ago. By leakage I mean that occasionally I will stand up and then I feel urine in my Urethra. Sometimes it's enough to wet my underwear but I don't wear pads liners. I started PT about 3 weeks post RARP and I was still wearing a liner. After my 8 sessions my leakage went from 1-2 times a day to 1-2 a week. Now it's just occasionally. If you start PT tell them how your leakage occurs, when sitting standing stress laughing etc. they can fine tune the PT exercises and adjust according. Also Make sure that your PT knows how to do Pelvic floor in men.

3 ReactionsMy husband had only 2 sessions and did not find it useful.
He used books, videos and some phone applications and made his own program of exercise that involved Kegel's and pelvic floor and core exercises which are extremely important.
He became fully continent 4.5 mos post surgery. *knock the wood
Consistency is the key also. Pelvic floor exercises need to be done every day but they were taking just about 30 min a day. Kegel's he did multiple times a day.
Now that he has no incontinence he does maintenance exercises twice a week as a part of regular exercise that he does and Kegel's when showering etc - just in case .

Hi Billy - I think that you perhaps did not read my post thoroughly, my husband did not like those 2 PT sessions that he had and decided to do exercises at home using books, videos and phone apps.
Maybe you wanted to ask this question @jayhall ?
It is important to find someone who deals specifically for male pelvic floor exercises. I am currently on active surveillance, but wanted to get ahead of the problem. I had three sessions and was wired to see if I was contracting the correct muscle group in the pelvic floor. She put me in numerous positions and to hold the kegel for ten seconds on and ten seconds rest. But it very important to find the right therapist. Good luck.

3 Reactions@surftohealth88 thanks for your follow up. Can you recommend books or videos you feel are helpful?
@billybwbf2
Here are some exercises that he did.
- Kegel Exerices :
MOBILE APP: XiiB Kegel Exercises For Men
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/xiib-kegel-exercises-for-men/id998141368
VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch
For Core Exercises he did ones that are listed on page 28 (level 1) for the first 2 mos. after surgery, and than page 30 for the next 2 mos.
They are from this book :
“CORE Strength for 50+”
by Dr. Karl Knopf
https://www.amazon.com/Core-Strength-50-Customized-Program/dp/1612431011
Unfortunately we lost link for pelvic floor exercises. They were very simple and he used only 6 of them. If I manage to find the link I will attach it separately.
I hope this was of some help < 3

4 Reactions@jayhall @surftohealth88 @grehenn Thanks very much for your responses!
Found a PT locally that specializes in pelvic floor training, works with both men and women and has been doing it for 10 years.
Next hurdle is to get a referral (for some unknown reason my surgeon wants me to do kegels but wouldn't write a referral for PT to learn how to do them correctly, instead wants me on 3 months of solifenacin/anti bladder spasm drug). I'm working through it, will get the pelvic floor training one way or the other. But again, thanks for your responses, they have been very helpful!
