Partial Facial/Mouth Numbness

Posted by pink0rchid @pink0rchid, Feb 4 2:33am

For the past few months I’ve been experiencing reoccurring numbness in the right corner of my mouth, so far a reason hasn’t been found yet. It’s usually only in that spot and it’ll come and go. Some days it’ll last for hours and be very uncomfortable and others it’ll be brief frequent moments. Also sometimes I’ll get painful, pulling feelings on that side of my face or cold pins and needles. Those are rare compared to the daily numbness.
In the Summer I had dental fillings and I had lasting numbness on the right side for maybe 2 weeks. My dentist said it was nerve irritation and would go away, and it did! That was July and until December I didn’t have any problems. My fillings healed fine, I have no sign of infection or abscess.
So far all my PCP could tell me is that I seem to be having numb chin syndrome. I did a blood test for B-12 levels and they were perfect. Overall I’ve felt very warn down, new muscle pains in my arms and legs, fatigued. Now I’m waiting on an MRI.
I haven’t seen anything online that matches how I’ve been feeling and wasn’t too sure where to put this post. My PCP said we’re doing the MRI to check for “tumors or lesions” and that’s been insanely freaky to think about. So if anyone has any insight that’d be greatly appreciated while I wait for my scan!

This happened to my husband after the 2nd Covid shot. He had a MRI and they said he has inflamed ventricles in his brain are pressing down on nerves. He had it for a year and a half and it went away. In 2024 he got the flu shot, no problems, this season he got the shot and within 8 days it is back and worse than ever. Going for another MRI.
Do you have burning mouth syndrome?

@swilkins1974
I also had a reaction to the rna Moderns vaccine. Petechaie, then Bell's Palsy, then neuritis. The vaccine for flu is totally different from an rna vaccine. I have been warned to never have another rna vaccine. That is upsetting because so many vaccines and even cancer treatments are going towards rna technology.
I hope that your husband will have a good outlook. I took about a year and a half also to resolve at least mostly the neuritis; it will still flare with covid exposure and maybe just virus exposure or stress.

@swilkins1974 Very sorry to hear about your husband’s struggles. Hopefully this time around he can find some relief.
It does often feel like I have burning mouth syndrome, but I haven’t been told that by a doctor.

I’m so sorry your husband is dealing with this numbness. I will try to make a long story short.4 years ago I recieved the Moderna Covid vaccine . Two months after I recieved it the right side of my face went numb.then 3 months later I developed pain on the left side of my face
Then not long after I developed numbness on the left side also along with the pain. The pain quickly became worse and was soon diagnosed with trigeminal nueralgia.Fast forward 6 months I had cyberknife done on the trigeminal nerve to damage the nerve to help with the severe pain which was in my ear, my cheek and in my mouth. While this did help some, I ended up with severe numbness on the left side of my face . My teeth hurt my gums are so swollen from the nueropathy
I have a very difficult time eating and have lost a lot of weight. My quality of life has suffered tremendously
Meantime I was diagnosed with sjogrens ,myositis , arthritis, burning mouth, and raynauds . My rheumatologist has told me he thinks the original numbness is due to the sjogrens which. Can cause nuerological symptoms . I believe that these problems originated from the COVID vaccine which started 2 months after. I have heard that a lot of people have developed numerological problems after the Covid vaccines. I wish you the best and hope that you can resolve your issues. I have been taking ivig therapy for a year . It is helping myositis but not my other issues

@vmd
I can sympathize; I had petechiae , bell's palsy and eventually neuritis....all were found in the Moderna vaccine trials.
I saw a Vandy neurologist and the tests showed no nerve damage but virus activity at a level below where quote "I would notice any problems"....the results were consistent with a vaccine reaction.
The neuritis still flares under stress and at exposure to viruses, but it is much better.

I do see that :
Studies indicate a potential association between COVID-19 vaccination (including the Moderna vaccine) and reports of new-onset or exacerbated trigeminal neuralgia (TN), though the overall incidence is considered rare. The risk of developing neurological issues is reportedly much higher from a SARS-CoV-2 infection itself than from the vaccine.
https://www.markmclaughlinmd.com/patients/trigeminal-neuralgia-covid-19-vaccination.
The potential link is thought to be related to an immune-mediated inflammatory response, where the body's immune system, activated by the vaccine, may inadvertently affect the trigeminal nerve. This is similar to neurological complications seen with the actual COVID-19 infection, which also involves an inflammatory response.
https://www.mdpi.com/2076-393X/11/2/425.
In many reported cases, the TN symptoms triggered after vaccination responded well to standard treatments such as corticosteroids, carbamazepine, or pregabalin, with patients often recovering completely.

I so hope that this situation becomes better for you. I am so glad that mine is better. I am still left with some neuritis symptoms that flare and the left side of my side of my face now has a deeper fold at the nose because those facial muscles are weaker and don't hold up the face as well. But I smile a lot and no one knows and no one knows but me about the continuing symptoms of neuritis. Life is better, and I so hope that for you.
