Starting Peritoneal Dialysis: What do I need to know?
Have just has surgery to install a catheter for Parenteral Dialysis. Will have to wait 3 weeks for healing. I have a really good group of vascular and nephrology doctors and support but am still trying to find out how others manage the daily routines. I still have some kidney function (GFR 13-14) so am hopeful that I can maintain them for awhile. At my age (83), a transplant is off the table. Any input as to problems, diet and certainly, successes would be appreciated.

@trishak Being you are in Washington, have you checked in to OHSU or Legacy Good Samaritan, both in Portland, Oregon? My husband goes to Legacy for his transplant care since we moved up here in 2019. He was transplanted in 2016.
I agree being able to multi-list at different transplant centers may be helpful. As the old saying goes, if you don't ask, the answer will be "no". Mayo Clinic has a different procurement area, and if you can find a qualifying live donor, there may be less of a wait time.

Hello Ginger, my husband and I are from Alaska; however we are in region 6 procurement area. At this point we haven't checked other transplant centers. Having to test and retest for other centers is a bit of an obstacle
@trishak Ah, now I see where your username comes from, with "ak" on the end!
You can always make the inquiry to a transplant center, to see if they will accept testing from what you have already done. It's worth asking, if they know your situation.
