Nov 25’ will be 1 year since being able to walk. I was rear ended Nov 15. Started off as intense and still is low back pain. I was walking at first but the weeks following I kept falling, dizziness like I was drunk but not. Almost fell on my children, fell off my porch. It was all the time. By the 3rd week I could no longer walk. I have underwent MeI X-ray EMG blood work. And nothing comes back abnormal. Besides an ancorid left lateral ventricle cyst in my brain. They say Thats not the cause of the symptoms but something is. I get headaches, nausea, short of breath and again can’t walk. High fall risk and my wife is my care giver. In a 10 month time frame.
The doctors around here have clue. And just keep telling me to wait and see let’s wait and see.

I need help.

Im only 29. Did have thyroid cancer 3 years ago but no longer has thyroid took out.

Welcome to Mayo Connect. Are you interested in getting a 2nd opinion at another medical facility?
If interested in getting an appointment at Mayo Clinic, your provider can refer you, or you can self-refer (request an appointment yourself).

Start here to self-refer: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63 . You will receive a call to schedule a time to speak with an appointment coordinator. You or your doctor will be given instructions on how to submit relevant medical records, test results, imaging studies, etc.

Have you requested 2nd option elsewhere yet?

What level was your lesion? Did it cause paralysis from your waist down or only weakness?

@jakedduck1 I don’t have a lesion. It’s just waist down and weakness both.

Hi,

Sorry to hear what you had to go through. First thing, I’m so glad your doctor was and is optimistic! That’s surely encouraging. And the cancer’s now no longer an issue!

My epilepsy is a multifocal one. That means even if I choose to cut off something, it’s as good as slicing my entire brain. I can’t go anywhere without a caregiver, and have totally no privacy for a decade. Someone has to see me naked showering all the time. During one night when I went sneak to the toilet, I fell and injured (but not broke) my nose bridge. Blood was on the floor. My first instinct was to clean up the blood on the floor so no one would know I sneaked.

Like you, I had multiple scans of all sorts and blood tests and urine tests. There’s nothing abnormal, except knowing me having epilepsy. All my neurologist could do was to write me a memo to show the immigration officials in the event they questioned all the medications I was carrying when I finally had that courage to fly again. After all those months initially lying on the bed, I couldn’t walk without physiotherapy and thought I might as well die on the operation table. After that? KFC saved me. That’s something worth living for.

If you continue to choose living in the dark, you’ll never ever see that sunshine.

Cheers,
Louis
