Hello from @rharlow3024.
I was diagnosed with stage 4t or a high 3 pancreatic cancer in September 2019. Went through two rounds of chemo And one round of radiation in a clinical trial. My Whipple surgery was performed brilliantly by Dr. Douglas Evans at Froedtert Hospital in Wisconsin In July 2020. At this point in time, I’m six years cancer free and only see my oncologist for a checkup once a year. I consider myself incredibly lucky. The problem I’m dealing with Since all of this happened is that I’ve lost at least 50 pounds in the past seven years since diagnosis and today I was at 128.8 Pounds, which isn’t the greatest For someone who is 6’1”. What is really nice is to find this support site where I can read what others have gone through and what they are doing to help themselves.

@rharlow3024 Hi and welcome to Mayo Connect. The weight loss sounds challenging. Were you, or are you, on any digestive enzymes? What have you tried to maintain a desirable weight?

Hello, I have a question about creon. I started taking it a week ago. It only helped couple times. I still run to bathroom after eating. How long does it take to really start working? What happens if it just won’t work. It’s only thing holding me back right now.

@valerina30 Running to the bathroom is never fun. When are you taking your creon? How much are you taking?

@tomrennie I love that you are from Philly. So am I ! You are so right. Being from Philly makes you assertive and always in Fight Mode when necessary. We know how to look out for ourselves and each other !

@suelannon I agree with you. We are very passionate about our beliefs and our defense of them. We also love our community and the people in it. I learned, "We are better than me!" growing up in Philly. On Connect, I just hope to be a small part of someone's we.

@jopier Though I live in Arizona now, I am still a Phillies fan and a fan off all of Philly's sports teams. I will be watching the Phils against the Yankees today. It might be a good time to try boxing. I sometimes hang pillows from a ceiling fan and beat the crap out of them. I am guilty of talking some trash to my cancer as I do so. Not only are pillows soft on the hands, they don't punch back. I highly recommend it. I find it a very therapeutic way to get out my anger and frustration towards my cancer. How do you get yours out? Hopefully, today is another good day?

Our basil and figs are both coming in so I am dehydrating figs, making preserves and freezing pesto. chasing the grandkids but trying to keep a healthy pace there. once it cools i will walk more and attempt to ride my bike some. today was another good day. after the game to bed to rest up for my second cycle.
hope your day has been a good one!

@rharlow3024 losing weight can be good/bad-but losing muscle is the biggest problem . Have you tried walking more and possibly it using hand weights?
Will you be in Milwaukee for the Power of Us in August?
You are very lucky to have worked with Dr Evans group . I suspect their nurse navigator would have tips for you to put on some muscle weight!

@jopier The score did hold up for a Phils win! I walk a lot too, but I can relate to it being hot. It is 112 here today. I try to walk by 7am to avoiding melting. Chasing grandkids can be fun especially when you catch them. It sounds like you have some very tasty hobbies that I wish that I could indulge with you. My oncologist told me to never stop moving, if I can. I heed that advice to the best of my ability. Any day above the dirt is a good day for me. Thanks for asking. When is your second cycle?

@valerina30 Here is a discussion on some tips on how to best take creon. Other members have used the tool on pertcalculator.org. Take a look at them, and let me know if you find anything helpful.
