Pampering Yourself

Posted by Gem @gemmax, May 5, 2018

After many years of illness and a loss of the person that I used to be, I made a decision to make myself as comfortable as possible; I created a cozy nest in our master bedroom and not only made it beautiful, but put everything that I use and need within reach of my side of the bed. This is what i did:I decided what we needed and how it would all fit into the room. I got everything in the appropriate sizes. a few pieces were new, but most were things we already had in other parts of the house.After we put everything in place, I found that our King bed (one that moves up and down) still fit. we had the room painted a soft cream with white trim and added cream colored draperies on the windows as well as shades for light control. As I sit writing this,beside me is a small white 4 drawer chest that has everything I could need in it (books, bible, drawing pad, drawing pencils, a journal, an appointment book, a heating pad, dining napkins, small cotton towels, a container for waste paper, a box of Kleenex, round tins for all sorts of needs such as lipbalm, nail equipment, skin cream, etc...use your imagination. )On top is a phone,a lamp that works without electricity for emergencies, a TV and bed control and room for a small tray. Just behind my left shoulder is a small floor lamp that i can easily reach. Looking straight ahead on the wall opposite the bed is a very small electric fireplace with a beautiful painting of flowers above , that i have always loved. Beside it is a small round drop leaf table with 2 chairs so that if i can't get out of bed, my husband can still dine with me, In the corner next is a larger dresser for clothing with a small TV on top. The walls are decorated with several large painitings and photographs. a clothes tree stands by the dresser for quick hangups instead of having to open the closet door and search for things if i don't feel like it. My husbands side has a rounded table and a table lamp. I splurged on cotton bedding in several colors and bought a bunch of pastel pillowcases at a clearance sale. I have two really good pillows for us and four more so we have a pile of pillows.I really spent very little money, but it is so comforting. I encourage you to create a special place for yourself where you can rest. Use what you have, use your imagination, do it all gradually. Large or small, It makes all the difference in the world. My favorite thing in mine is a little fancy photo holder with pictures of all those that I love still here or home with God. I love looking through it and seeing those precious faces of my family anytime I want. I would love to hear your ideas and what you have done to make your nest. Be blessed and sweet dreams!

@gemmax Hello Gem:

Never worry about misspellings or grammatical errors - we all make them. We just encourage everyone to express their thoughts and feelings. (No red pens to circle errors - ever),

MORE PAMPERING .(Girls and partners)..LOVING YOURSELF....Whether we are part of a couple, a family or single. We can love ourselves in so many ways. It is tempting when we feel so sick so much of the time to let our personal care slide. It is often difficult to keep up with grooming. I have personally found that the more effort I put into caring for myself, the better I feel. I originally had black hair, but as it turned white at very young age, I had it colored in a salon.As I became more and more ill, I thought how difficult it was and was it really worth it spending the time ,often at the expense of pain? I decided to let my hair grow out to it’s natural color. I also let it grow long again. It is pure silver and is very straight and I wear it in a ponytail or a braid. Itis so much esier not to have to think about it. And surprisingly, I have gotten a lot of compliments on it. I started thinking about all of the things that I had let go. I love cowboy hats, but I hadn't had one in years, so I went out and found a stetson! Could be that you love berets or big straw hats or beautiful scarves. the point is...whatever you love, do it now!
No one may ever see your legs except yourself, but keep then smooth and soft, use the scented cream that you love on them. Paint your toenails red or blue or purple or whatever! Take care of your hands and your fingernails the same way. Also, there are great comfortable bras now for you girls that do not pinch or hurt and still have lots of support.Whatever kind of lingerie that you like, buy the most beautiful that you can and colorful. Look for warm cozy pajamas and a really cozy robe for winter. Buying in off season can be rewarding financially. Even if you feel really lousy, use a good cream on your face,and add a touch of cream blush, eyebrow gel and a matte lipstick on top of lip balm. Just a tiny bit. I found that I’m often pale and l don't want to look like a clown. Buy scented soaps and look for great shampoos and condtioners. Find a couple of comfortable midi length dresses that you can wear at home with some warm soft socks for your feet. Always have a pretty sweater handy.The point is.... You know who you are...don't let illness take that away. Light a scented candle.Wear anything you love, Take care of yourself. LOVE YOURSELF Be blessed. .Would love to hear about your favorite routines. Gem
