Painful/Burning Shin with no known cause: Ideas?
Started in January I began to have pain in my right shin when driving. It has progressively gotten worse over the last six months. I cry when I drive. The pain is also keeping me up at night and I can’t stand for longer then ten minutes and walking hurts. No one can figure it out. I had a knee MRI that showed a little damage, a back MRI that said mild bulging of disks. I have tried acupuncture, massage, PT and a chiropractor. Nothing has helped. I can’t do anything and I’m so frustrated and depressed.

Another thought: Recently I visited with a friend who has just been diagnosed with Graves disease. she is a nurse and when she looked up Graves disease, she discovered that burning shins (which she does have) is a symptom of it. Just another idea. Good luck
I feel your frustration and I’m sorry you are going through this. Have you ruled out shin splints? I looked it up on the Mayo Clinic website and the symptoms seem to fit. They suggest ice, rest and good ortho support shoes. Forgive me if you have already considered this, but sometimes doctors miss the simplest diagnosis and go looking for more complex explanations. I wish you the very best of care and a speedy diagnosis and recovery.
The burning pain I have experienced could come from either or both diagnoses I have. They are complex regional pain syndrome CRPS or small fiber neuropathy dx by biopsy. I use lidocaine prilocaine cream and lidocaine 5% pain patches. Hope a doctor you see might check you out for these not well known problems.
Good information I certainly will check it out
