Hi - sorry to hear you are going through that. I had a total pancreatectomy about 6 years ago and experience similar effects when my Creon enzyme dosage isn't quite right for the meal I ate. Did they prescribe Creon for you? It could be pancreatic insufficiency and the dosage might need to be changed (or started.)

@johnny1955 - thanks. I take three 36,000 unit capsules with meals and one with snacks. Here's a dosage calculator from AbbVie that helped me dial in the right dosage -> https://www.creonhcp.com/dosing-calculator. Might be worth checking on it to see if that helps. For me, fatty or protein heavy meals need more Creon to avoid the undesirable side effects of insufficiency.

@johnny1955 - Absolutely - from AbbVie's site - Signs of not taking enough Creon may include oily or foul-smelling stools, weight loss, bloating, gas, and abdominal pain. If you experience these symptoms, consult your healthcare provider to adjust your dosage.
It took a bit for me to figure out the foods and dosages and sometimes I forget to take Creon with a meal, I remember why I take it 🙂
I would reach out to your Doctor to get their thoughts on adjusting your dosage as losing weight and cramps sounds like malabsorption. I lost about 30 pounds after my surgery and have managed to keep it stable ever since (but I eat a lot of calories to maintain the weight.)

@johnny1955 - I tend to eat about 3000 to 3500 calories a day. I watch carbs (because of brittle diabetes from the pancreatectomy) so I eat protein - lean meats, nuts, yogurt, with veggies mixed here and there.

@johnny1955 - Hi Johnny - I can really eat most anything, but tend to eat more turkey products (turkey ground meat, hot dogs, etc.) because it's less fatty and easier for me to digest. I really haven't found anything I couldn't digest once I had the right dosage.
For high calorie items, I eat a lot of nuts (mostly walnuts that has really helped my cholesterol levels) and peanut butter because the fat in it helps slow the blood sugar carb spike.
I eat breakfast (eggs/toast), mid morning snack (variety), lunch, mid afternoon snack, dinner, and some yogurt/walnuts before bed.

1 Reaction@matt2024 what type of high calories do you eat.
Matt, what are some of your high calories?
@johnny1955 - I tend to eat about 3000 to 3500 calories a day. I watch carbs (because of brittle diabetes from the pancreatectomy) so I eat protein - lean meats, nuts, yogurt, with veggies mixed here and there.
@matt2024 can you eat beef and pork?
What high calorie food?

AbbVie also offers free water soluble vitamins if you sign up for their Creon savings card at https://patientsupport.creoninfo.com/cost-savings.
Might be worth asking your Doctor if they work with a nutritionist to help you plan a diet that works for you
