pNET with liver metastases: What is necrosis?

Posted by justme54 @justme54, May 4 12:43pm

Hi,
I was diagnosed with Pnet grade 2 level 4 in February. I had my first pet scan last Wednesday but haven't been able to talk to dr afterwards yet. One of the findings said that the imaging was indicative of necrosis. Am wondering if anyone else has had that?

I too have grade 2 NET liver metastasis but there was no mention of necrosis. Sorry I can’t help you there..

I too have pNET grade 2, stage 4 due to liver metastases, but have not heard of nectosis... Keep asking questions!

Hi, I’m a little late into this discussion. Yes, I had a distal pancreatectomy 4 years ago. My post operative leak/drain had necrosis. In my case it didn’t seem to alarm any of the drs and the issue never came up again. Hope this helps.

Generally speaking, necrosis is the death of the cells in your body tissues. Necrosis can occur due to injuries, infections or diseases.

As @lizzyeastwood said, necrosis may be nothing to worry about. But they may wish to investigate further to rule out infection.

@justme54, have you had a chance to ask your doctor about the findings? Were they concerned about the appearance of necrosis?

Oncologist said biggest issues were possibility of infection, abscess which may need draining or could rupture. He also said this could signal a change from grade 2 to 3.

monitoring symptoms such as fever/chills for infection, pain for abscess, more pain for rupture.

I have been on Lanreotide for 14 months after pNET with liver metastases. Right after surgery my blood sugar became normal, A1C below 6. Last month my A1C was 6.6, and my BG is around 130... I try to eat sensibly, not much carbs, follow pNET diet. Anyone with similar experience after LAN injections? I have CT scan on May 28, and am meeting my oncologist on June 3rd.

I have a NET but what’s
a pNET? I have liver metastasis too. Could you tell me about your surgery and who did it?

Hi, PNet is one that starts in the pancreas then spreads to other parts like the liver for me. I have not had surgery for mine since it is already advanced.
