How do you deal with oxygen tubing kinks and tangles?
Diagnosed with SCLC and am using an in home oxygen machine. I use the 50 foot oxygen tube to give me full access to my home. The tube is constantly getting twisted and with kinks. I spend a lot of time trying to get it straightened out. I am so grateful for the equipment but if anyone has suggestions to keep the tubing straight I would be so grateful.

I’m sorry for your frustration with the long tube that you have to rely on, being 50 feet in length did anyone ever warn you about this issue? I am sadly reminded of the old days before we had cordless and cell phones, I would get the longest cord available so I could move around the house, usually they would crack or get knotted up and then I’d buy another one. I was wondering if you could get advice on how to fix this issue, perhaps a cord made from a different material that doesn’t tangle with movement, possibly you can get in touch with a medical equipment manufacturer that might have something similar for you without having this problem, I sincerely apologize that I didn’t answer your question but I found your post really touched me, I hope that you will find something useful to help you out and allow you the mobility you deserve, best wishes.

1 Reaction@bkwood I haven't used these myself, but I found a couple of tube management options online.

2 ReactionsHi,
I'm sorry you are having this problem! That can be very frustrating. I took care of my Mom for 10 years and my husband for 14 years. They each had oxygen and 50 foot tubes. They had the same frustration with the tubes that you are having. We could never find any easy way to handle the situation. Unfortunately I don't think there is anything you can do about it. However, you might call an oxygen company and ask them about it. With today's technology there may be a solution.
Some of the things we did that made life with oxygen much easier was to make certain that we had several tubes. You never know when the tube can get a small hole and not work as well as it should. By having several tubes you have a back up. And those kinds of things always seem to happen in the middle of the night. Save all the old tubes that work well when you get new tubes. You never know when you may need the old ones. Sometimes even the new tubes don't work well. If you ever feel like your oxygen isn't putting out any air take the cannela (the part you put in your nose) and put it in a glass of water. If air is coming through it, the water will bubble. That way, you will know if the problem is with the machine or if you are having a physical problem.
Did they give you a portable oxygen tank also? They are smaller and lightweight so you can take them when you go to the store etc.
I hope my suggestions are helpful for you. I wish you the very best and will say a prayer for you.

1 Reaction@mamajite I have the same frustrating issues. I live in a tri-level home and tubes always getting tangled or caught on corners. If anyone has tried these solutions, I would love to hear their feedback. TY.

1 ReactionWe received them early. Unfortunately they are too big for the tubing supplied to us by the oxygen company (roughly 2 mm internal diameter).
We have now ordered this 5 mm green tubing. We found some of it in the ambulance leftovers. The plastic swivel connectors fit perfectly, but may not be needed if we believe the claims of the seller.
I’ll report back when we get this tubing. Fingers crossed!

1 ReactionI have over 50 feet also, I’m able to go to the basement or upstairs to the bedrooms. I rarely use it now. I’ve had the occasional issue with the end connected to the compressor, just ease the pressure on the connection. Could it be the quality of the hose? Do you have access to other products. Just thinking out loud.

1 Reaction@mcgirene Just to update about the green tubing referenced above. My husband has been using 25 feet of it for 10 days. He changes floors with it as well as walking on the flat going to other rooms. So far no kinks or tangles. The flow is strong and regular. No need for swivel connectors. He is happy with it and will continue using it. Hopefully it will remain as effective with time and use.
Just to be clear we are not associated in any way to the seller of this product.
