oximeter reading rises slowly
When my wife or others use my oximeter the reading goes directly to their correct level. But for me, it starts out at about 85 and then rises to 92 in about 1 minute if i inhale deeply. What is going on there?

@hiker108 Pulse oximeters can be finicky devices. They do not read as quickly or accurately on individuals with heavily pigmented skin, cold hands, or with a poor fit (like in the case of arthritic fingers.)
Recently, there was a discussion elsewhere on Connect about variability depending on the finger used as well. Here is the discussion, with a link to the study that addresses the issue:

While most photos and YouTube videos show the meter on the index finger, some people get a better reading on the middle finger of their dominant hand.
Have you tried using different fingers when you measure?
I think we typically take shallow breaths which can impact the lungs capability to produce the right level of O2. Once taking a few deep breaths the the process improves as you have discovered. Do you have shortness of breath at rest?
I have experienced the same thing.
What is weird is that others don't experience this with my oximeter. Only
me. I am 78 and I have some problems.
@hiker108 Well, I know at least one other that has this issue. For me it starts at 90 and with a few deep breaths climbs to 95. I'm older as well. What are your 'some problems"? Are they respiratory in nature?
I lerned today that it works for me if I use pinky or ring finger/ Much better instant reading.
