Osteoporosis treatment or strontium citrate?

Posted by bonelady @bonelady, May 10, 2018

Is reclast a safe treatment for osteoporosis I have not done anything so far except strontium citrate?

***Director's Note:***
There’s not enough research to know if strontium fights osteoporosis. Also, the FDA doesn’t regulate supplements in the same way as prescription drugs, so it's not possible to know if if they are safe or work well or even how much of the main ingredient they contain.

If you want to take a strontium supplement, it is recommended to ask your doctor first.

@debbiem

Over a 7-yr period, dr had to increase my dose almost every 6-9 months. Then I developed a horrible allergic reaction which took prednisone to get under control. Those drugs are so tough on our bodies!! I hope you can handle them ok.

I am allergic to over 60 drugs - I can relate. But gabapentin is my friend. I am so sorry all of that happened to you. ConsumerLab.com is a consumer watchdog group that tests supplements for purity, strength, etc. They found that AlgaeCal has 87% of the magnesium it says it has and it has too much lead in it. Good thing you stopped taking it. It is not approved by ConsumerLab. There are better sources of calcium out there. The nutritionist told me to get calcium from oyster shells, coral, etc. I'm dealing with a dying pet tonight - but I'll try to find more about calcium for you if you want. Your body is the boss of you!

@parrotqueen, Thank you for reporting positively on your friend, Gabapentin. My heart breaks for your pet. I lost Roxie last year. Still
grieving and missing her so much.

I supplement my calcium because I cannot eat enough of it on my diet (No sugar diet). I take magnesium, boron, vitamin D3 (4,000 IU daily), and vitamin K2 (mk4 and mk7). That's what I am doing for my bones. And since my DEXA scan was -5.7, I am also doing a low dose of estrogen and progesterone. Next time I find the medical journal paper I have about estrogen and osteoporosis, I will post it. I don't have a strong family history of cancer. Colon cancer was big in our family, but going off sugar seems to be working for that.

OMG Lioness!!! I am delighted with Boron - I can crochet and play piano again! Things I never thought I could do again in this life. Also, all the big horrible piles of arthritis things on my hands are starting to go away!!! My fibromyalgia is like "What fibromyalgia?" I'm so happy this is working out for us.

It sounds as if you have a good handle on this problem. You have done some research and have come up with a plan. Advocating and researching for yourself is important.

My parrot is still hanging in there - although she isn't very active. She is partly this way because I have been so downhearted about the shape our country is in - I was wearing my heart on my sleeve. But she is very delicate now. I suspect she could go any day. I know I said it before, but she is almost 38 years old - I've known her since she was an egg. Her parents were my pets when I was in high school. I have never lived even one day without a parrot in my life. I can't bear this! I am really saddened - but I have post-it notes all over the house to look happy. Worse still, her partner is also in pain - I am struggling with the idea of putting them down both the same day. I don't want to be me that day.
