Oral LP - first upcoming periodontist cleaning
Hi group. I'm trying to be brave but I'm due to get my first periodontist cleaning next week. They swear it's not the "deep" cleaning but is deeper than my dental hygienist does. They promise me it "won't be bad," but I've been lied to before. Many years ago I went to a periodontist a few times and promised myself "never again" but I'm desperate. Almost two years ago my teeth began breaking off at the gum line. So far, I've lost 5-6. They made me a partial but it is useless, awful, and painful. The periodontist said the LP has to be brought under control. He then thinks I can get three implants to hold a full top denture. I've already been told by two dental surgeons that my bones and gum tissue is not strong enough for implants. I'm praying about this and pray I'm wrong and this guy has some good solutions. I'm planning to take a list of some of the suggested toothpastes and meds, gels, etc. I've seen on this forum and see his reaction to them.
Any input from those with experience is welcomed. I've read quite a bit in the autoimmune support group.

That all sounds great esp if they can get an implants to anchor. I'm overdue for my twice a year cleaning (~$500 for 2? Is that about the right cost or I may need to find a less expensive dentist? Plus xrays plus whatever else?
Of course that's the dentist that put the chain behind my front teeth that hopefully will save them for years to come which probably wouldn't have gotten done with another dentist so I guess I should stay put. < grin> teeth vs money. Teeth win.
Thanks for your response I appreciate it. I really feel like a water pic has made all the difference too. I just need to get myself to use it more. Things got really off track for me with Hurricane Helene but it did for everybody in town. 2025 time to get back on track.
Thanks. Be.
Morning BE. I have dental insurance which pays for two cleanings and exams plus certain X-rays per year. Now that I'm going more often for cleanings any additional ones are out of pocket--$50 for cleaning and exam is $25. Not sure why yours is more except for the extra "chain" that they attached. Hay, call around and ask other dentists what they charge. I'm sure they wouldn't mind giving that out.
Water pics - I have tried to use them as I felt it was a good way to clean between my teeth and massage the gums to get them in better shape. Now that I have lung disease I have to be extra careful with anything that I might aspirate into my lungs causing infections, plus the water reservoir and water lines can harbor mycobacterium (the enemy.) Anyway, the ones I'd tried in the past were too strong so after about three models, I decided to quit wasting my money. We just keep learning. Faye
