I’ve had oral life and plan for decades.. Right now it is the best it’s been since I was in my 20s and I’m in my 70s.
Use a children’s toothpaste as it has less chemicals in it. With oral light and planus it’s best to have products that have less ingredients than more
Hope you can figure this out
I have oral lichen planus. The dentist diagnosed it and then I also saw an ENT. Her only suggestion was to watch what I eat. No spicy foods, chips and no carbonated drinks. Have anyone here been asked about metal filings being a cause? Has anyone been tested for Hepitists C? Any thyroid issues? Appreciate any and all responses.
I've been in a 20 year remission of Graves, hyperthyroidism. I now have OLP nearly 3 years now. Can't get rid of it!! The open sore on my lower lip is the worst!

@rbush54 OLP falls under Dermatology or oral medicine. No real remedies. Try lots of different things. Dexamethasone swish and spit, lidocaine, clobestosol , nystatin , Biotene lozenges etc on Plaquinil. Watch what kind of toothpaste. Had patch testing by Derm path. Just flew to Mayo to see Derm but really just to see if missing anything to try. Nope. Trying to get to a point where I can tolerate it. I have Reticular OLP. Lips very involved, tongue and roof of mouth. Ana positive but no diagnosis of autoimmune specific disease. Luckily no sores just no taste , sandpaper tongue and roof of mouth. Body temperature changes all day. Weird. Hope you find someone to try things to see if anything works. Another friend is on gabapenten for burning mouth.
The dentist thought I had lichen plantis but I went to see a dermatologist and he did a biopsy on a piece on of my gum and it came back that I had Plasma Cell Mucositis. It's very rare. I also took gabapenten. I took steroids in the beginning and they had me put Tacrolimus ointment on my gums at night. There was one other drug for liver transplants patients but it didnt help at all. It just made my immune system really weak. My gums were bloody red and I had blisters. I have had this for 3 years. I started taking Rinvoq it's for eczema and it's been a miracle drug for me. It has taken almost all the red away and no more blisters. You might want them to do a biopsy if they haven't already. Also my insurance wouldnt pay so we had to say I have eczema and the doctor got me on a special program from the pharm. company. I hope this helps. I was desperate a few years ago because nothing was working. Spices, anything cinnamon, mint burned my mouth. I use carifree gel 1100 grape toothpaste. It's expensive but worth it.

@opeggisu1 Thank you very much for your response. I have not had a biopsy done as of this writing. I have used some mouth rinses issued by my dentist, to no avail. Went and saw a ENT as well. She talked about doing a biopsy, but did not. I only saw her twice. Had just tried to watch wath I eat most of the time. Thank you for the suggestion of the toothpaste. I will definitely be looking into getting this! I appreciate your feed back.

Hi-I have had oral lichen planus for several years. I live just north of Cincinnati Ohio. I actually saw my doctor today who is known as “the expert in oral lichen planus “ in the US. People come to see him from all across the country-his name is Dr. Drore Eisen and I can’t say enough about him!
When I first came to him he said my mouth was a mess!!! He treated me with clobetasol 3x per week and a solution of tacrolimus and water which I swish 3x per week. He said the problem is most Dr aren’t experienced in lp-even when there aren’t symptoms, treatment must continue. He said he is treating several patients right now who weren’t treated continuously and they now have oral cancer!!! I was tested for hepatitis c=negative, he didn’t think the metal fillings were connected; no thyroid issues. The food is definitely a cause of discomfort when you are having symptoms. Stress, trauma such as dental work are major culprits. Please have your doctor treat you.

I have olp and I was told today by my specialist that my mouth looks great!!! Before I began to see him-the first appointment he said my mouth was a mess!! He is the top specialist in the country on olp. He told me today that the mistake doctors make is discontinuing treatment once symptoms are gone-he said this needs to be treated always and when there is a flare up, treatment needs to be accelerated. Oral cancer is the danger. Clobetasol on the gums 3x per week and a solution of water and tacrolimus-swish for 1minute 3x per week

@beauty44 -the specialist-Dr Eisen says there is no cure, treatment must continue even with no symptoms. He is treating several people now whose symptoms subsided and their doctor stopped treatment and now they have oral cancer!!! I don’t mind continuing treatment.
