Onero Program for bone building

Posted by bethieb @bethieb, Dec 9 8:44am

Has anyone tried the Onero program in the U.S. and, if so, what is your opinion of it? Is it expensive? I go to the gym for resistance training but don't really know if I'm exercising correctly and getting the most benefit from what I'm doing. I don't know if the Y trainers that I go to are skilled in strength techniques for osteoporosis patients. I've also heard of OsteoStrong but don't know much about it either - success or not. Any info would be appreciated.

There are many comments in some of the subcategories under Osteoporosis. Both for Onero and Osteostong.

Hello. I am currently enrolled in an Onero program through Scoliosis Pt JAX. It’s located on Jacksonville Florida. I drive from GA to access 2x week. There is a specific protocol developed from the LIFTMOr study. It’s not typically what is done in regular weight or strength training. It involves deadlifting heavier weights with specific sets and reps because this was discovered to actually create the impact that bone requires to stimulate bone building process. I have done free weights in the past and this is quite different on my body. I am allergic to bone meds. I had a fracture at T-8 a year and a khyptoplasty. I picked up a 50# dog. No Provider knows what to advise. I’m extremely active. I lifted 35# sandbags - then it was basically don’t do anything- you can fracture.

My PT is trained and licensed by Onero. Yes it does make a difference for safety, actual bone formation -not just muscle/strength. My program already has a waiting list. I plan to go for at least a year. Then hopefully be able to find someone closer a program/personal trainer/PT- this like meds -for the rest of your life. It’s $400/month. Prices will vary. Medicare does not cover. I’m super happy with my progress at 3 months. Highly recommend!

Hello @cobb, I am from San Diego and hope to go there to visit my family after a year of Onero is completed. Maybe stay couple of months and access a program there -as a drop in- if I can. So please let me know your experience also. My Dexa was 3.2 spine, hips 2.5/2.4. Next is due 2/26. I am deferring until 10/26 after I am in Onero for one year. Could not get Medicare to provide one prior to starting and I decided the $600 wasn't feasible for my budget.
The thoracic spine area and muscles were trashed by the T8 fracture and I could not do much without pain. I was barely able to deadlift 6# total initially and my trunk was very unstable. Liz (PT) says she is seeing muscle formation and my stability has improved a 1000%. I can feel and see it. My last lift for all sets and reps- 11#. This may seem like a small gain but it's huge actually. I have had to proceed slowly(adding 1.5 pounds) and relearn how to listen to my body. The deadlifting is mentally making stronger and the fear is much less. My pain is less. My ability to do what I need to live alone here in GA and maintain my house has increased. Unfortunately I now have pneumonia and will miss 2 weeks for sure. My partner (who opted out of meds) in one session has not fractured and she is making great strides. The program so there are no one else results I can tell you about.
I hope this helps. I will have my journey on instagram with videos as soon as I feel better. Wishing you a successful experience!

I am due to start Onero in Brisbane Australia in March 2026. I fractured the inferior arm of my pubis in May 2025 without any trauma which prompted me to get a DEXA scan in Aug 2025. Lumbar spine T score -3.5 and L femoral neck -3.1. There was a shortage of Teriparatide in Australia, so I started on Evenity 2 months ago. I am slowly building up my strength, but still nervous to be lifting weights, though I understand how important it is. I am very much looking forward to starting the program as the results of the LIFTMOR study are very convincing. One of the doctors who conducted the study is the head of the clinic where I will be attending, so I am hoping that is a good omen.

@staceywren Huge congratulations on your continued effort and accomplishment. My femoral necks are the bigger issue, 3.1 and 2.7, with hip FRAX 33% and overall FRAX 43%. I really felt comfortable with the class process and Dr. Wendy Green is great. So, looking forward to the slow and steady progress. Keep in touch when you get back to SD!
