On the road to my first Cardio Version

Howdy all
Thought I would share this incase anyone else is going through cardio version for the first time like me. I’ve got heart history dating back nearly 15 years, for context I’m 70 now. I’ve stated it else where so unless someone specifically asked I will forego putting that here.

April 17th diagnosed with Atrial Flutter 💯 of the time with episodes of Afib. Started Eliquis (blood thinner) and will be starting Metoprolol today, (beta blocker Scotty says the warp engines are out of control).

Had an echocardiogram today they wanted to do an IV injection of a dye or something so they could see the outer wall better…okay. Scheduled Cardio Version four weeks out. So now it’s just wait.

I wish we could upload images I’ve got some crazy or at least it seems crazy to me heart rate graphs. Over an hour when I’m inactive, like 57-126 today between 2 & 3 pm. I just look at the graphs shake my head and chuckle. I try to think what a V8 engine would sound like running like that. 😂 😂 😂 😂 Considering doing my own shock therapy to work my way up to the big one. Could attach wires on a 1.5v battery then touch to my tongue 👅. Just work my way up the battery ladder then maybe some low voltage…what ya think 🤔.

I had cardioversion done a little of 2 months ago. Took two zaps to get me back to NSR. First try my heart flip back to Afib almost instantaneously. Like other procedures they put you out while it is being done. A nice 1-hour nap. Maybe a battery charger and you can clip on to your chest and back.

I am 85 and to my knowledge this was my first episode of Afib. Pretty sure I brought it on by doing some really physical labor mending fences and not keeping myself hydrated. I will have pulse field ablation done on 23 May and hopefully this will keep me out of Afib.

Are you a Farmer or Rancher? Yea I do stuff like that all the time especially letting myself get dehydrated, I know better but I let it happen all the time.
I doubt my AFlutter will give up on the first zap.

On another topic, not sure what was in my original post but it required review took a couple of days.

My husband 77 had ablations, but Afib remains. He will get Cardioversion next week.

Are you saying you needed/had 2 Cardioversion zaps during this latest procedure? Thx

The two electrical impulses were given one right after the other at the same electrical impulse level. One cardioversion session. No reason was given why my heart flipped back to AFib, and I really don't care since I am still in NSR.

Amu45sin here. You are hilariously funny. Gave me many chuckles. Why is the cardioversion date so far out???

Humor is good.
Doc wants to make sure I’ve been on Eliquis long enough to dissolve (I assume) any blood clots that may have formed or may be forming.

I had maze surgery to correct afib which again was 💯% of the time and mitral valve repair back in Oct 2010. It was on April 10th 2025 around 9-10 pm when AFlutter returned, the first issue since the surgery. No heart meds of any kind. I don’t recall all the details of my surgery and I never got a full copy of the surgery report that I can find and that information is no longer available. I bring this up because there are other things that could have been done durning that surgery inside my heart that would help prevent stagnant areas for clots to form and I don’t know if that was done.
Below is April 10th, 11th and 12th daily heart data. And it has continued that way. I thought the shock of seeing this would have been enough to reset my heart but apparently not.

My 81 year old husband has had a-fib on and off for 15 years. He has had 10 cardioversions and 3 ablations. A Cardioversion is a piece of cake - we left the hospital soon after and headed out for lunch. Unfortunately the a-fib eventually came back after each cardioversion, hence the ablations. The a-fib returned after the last 2 ablations (each one lasted about a year) so we had a third one. The cardiologist will not do more than 3 ablations so if the a-fib comes back the next step is a pacemaker.

Since my maze surgery in 2010 I really haven’t thought about Afib except when commercials come on. It seems diagnosis is easy finding a complete fix is not. It seems I have merged onto the same long road as others when it comes to taming Afib.

I have a 45 acre place in SW Colorado. Just horses now and of course dogs. Horses keep me busy mending fences.
