Occipital Neuralgia Relief

Posted by itskingzman @itskingzman, Mar 7, 2024

Valium and a medrol dose pack. That's what fixed my occipital neuralgia. I've had my finger torn off, kidney stones, nothing compares to this. This is for anyone suffering like I did. I was confined to my couch for 3 weeks straight because I couldn't lay may head down to sleep. I had lighting like pains in my head non stop, the only thing that would help is taking a very hot shower. I was on oxycodone, oxycarbazepine, methocarbamol, indomethacin, Diclofenac sod dr, cyclobenzaprine, nortriptyline, gabapentin. I went to a pain clinic and got nerve blocks in both sides of my head, it didn't help. After trying everything and considering surgery, what helped it go away was Valium and a medrol dose pack.

@barbiejohanna yes, I was diagnosed with ON a few years ago.
I have never gotten shots, only some physical therapy that didn’t help.

ON is inflammation of the nerves under your scalp, face and neck. You describe the shots, and their side effects
to include inflammation., and pain. I would personally not get shots that cause symptoms like that.
Do you get relief? I hope so.

Unfortunately, I have now, and in the past, have pain in so many areas of my body that I just put up with it all. No pain relievers unless my arthritis starts up.

I’m almost 77 years old, and struggling with a few other health issues ( like falling, double vision, Polyneuropathy, fibromyalgia) ON has just “joined” the party.

Blessings!

@SusanEllen66 Hi. I understand your reluctance to get the ON Nerve Block injections. It took a very very long time to get longer relief. Not everyone has pain like I do after the injections. Even though the pain gets much worse after, it then calms down where I actually have much better quality of life. Like you, I have Fibromyalgia, Inflammatory Arthritis (Rheumatoid Arthritis) is a form of Inflammatory Arthritis. I have it all over my body. I have Chron's Colitis, Gastroparesis and much more. It all started in my mid & later 30s. I'm 57 now. I'm glad that one of my NP's who used to see me told me to not give up & keep trying to find better relief. At that time, I was bed ridden & I was giving up & told God that I was ready. I guess it was not my time. My Dad suffered with ON & sharp Neuralgia pains & secere Polymyalgia Rheumatica (and had polo as a child) in his whole body up until he died at 89 (died 9 years ago Apr 12th, 2017). He was the only family who knew exactly what pain I was going through & I knew same thing with him.

@barbiejohanna you are going through so much.
I have my stuff too but I’m just plain exhausted from it all.
At my age, I feel the need to do less and stress less.

So here I sit at 1:00. AM
Trying to talk myself into going to bed.
I can whenever I want to and that’s freedom.
