Numbness after total knee replacement (TKR): Any idea why?

Posted by whiteda @whiteda, Apr 24 7:29pm

My leg and foot was numb for two weeks after knee replacement surgery. I have most of the use back now but I still feel like a band is around my foot below the toes. The band feeling left for a few days after 2 weeks but has come back. Any idea why?

Forgot in my post to mention but surgery was almost 4 weeks ago.

I have had numbness in both my feet since my knee replacements 4;years ago. They diagnosed tarsal tunnel syndrome which is carpal tunnel but in the ankle as opposed to the hand. I can walk but in severe discomfort due to numbness, tingling, and burning in my toes and balls of feet. 3 surgeries later still bad. Any ideas.

Sounds like mine is mild compared to yours. Hope you find an answer.

Hello @whiteda, I would like to add my welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect along with @kp6350 and other members. I had my right knee replaced in April 2019 and have felt tightness around the knee but it really hasn't bothered me much other than mild curiosity. @mikeycaz, @sweede536, @ruthannejoan, @shmabe and @ellerbracke have talked about the tight IT band syndrome in other discussions and may have some suggestions for you or can share their experience.

Has your surgeon recommend any exercises or physical therapy? Here is an article I found that talks about things you might want to try to see if it helps.

Actually the band feeling is in my foot not my knee. Thanks for replying though.
