notable people with epilepsy

Posted by lsittll @lsittll, Jun 2, 2020

I read in an earlier Epilepsy Foundation newsletter and elsewhere that several well known persons with epilepsy. Charles Dickens, George Gershwin,
Edgar Allen Poe, Elton John, Prince, Danny Glover, Neil Young, Socrates, Julius Caesar, Pope Pius IX, Julius Caesar, Socrates and Theodore Roosevelt have/have had it, Even Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison and Alfred Nobel had epilepsy. How about that?

Thanks for providing such an interesting list, @lsittll! I had no idea that all of these people had epilepsy. It shows that intellect and creativity can co-exist with epilepsy!

The literature also shows that Socrates would not let his epilepsy get in the way of his life. That is me for sure! I have had many trials with my epilepsy for 53 years and in life in general,l , I only persist. I let NOTHING interfere with my life!

Any time @hopeful. I just am someone who does not give up. People say to me, "Laurie how do you do it?'. For some reason or other I just brush things a side. Things happen, they happen, I cannot control them. Sure I do get discouraged in between but somehow or other I do not give up!

In a book, I'm reading about a man with epilepsy he said that after recovering from a seizure he would be more mentally alert and creative. During his college days, he could accomplish a lot after seizure recovery. I'm just wondering if anyone else with epilepsy has had that experience?

I read that book too. Has it already been two plus years? It was interesting but I felt there was too much superfluous information that took away from his Epilepsy. I guess I like things more to the point especially with my taxed memory.
Take care,

Hi @lsittll
Thank you so much for sharing this interesting list of notable people with epilepsy. I have also read that Van Gogh had epilepsy (temporal lobe)!

I am curious about the book you are reading. Could you share the title and author with us, please?

I think this is the book Teresa is referring to but might be best if she verifies it.

I read it but gave it away the other day or would’ve sent it to you. If the lady still has it and isn’t using it, I still will if you like.

Hi Leonard, Good Morning (@jakedduck1)

Thank you so much for this information. I have found the book on Amazon, do not worry. It is though very kind of you! Thank you so much.
Did you enjoy reading this book?
I finish this post today with a quote I have seen in a series this weekend
“The unkindness of people only hurts as long as we allow it” - A Suitable Boy

Have all a nice day and a good start to this week
