Non specific urethritis

Posted by bfg1 @bfg1, Oct 11, 2022

I had radical prostatectomy 1 year ago and one month later experienced inflamation and pain at the end of the urinary tract. Initial diagnosis yeast infection due to antibiotic use.
No response to many anti fungal azoles topical and oral. recent testing by infectious disease doctor here for all std’s and bacteria came back negative after I informed him no sex after prostatectomy and monogamous marriage for 17 years before surgery. He said it’s not fungal either. Does anyone have any idea or experience with this.

Regarding a search for a surgeon, I wish you good luck and perseverance. This was my road to finding a surgeon. At age 70, after years of monitoring my PSA levels, and being grateful that they were consistently under 2.75 - - (monitoring because my Dad had prostate cancer) - - in 2021, during a routine physical, my PSA was measured at just under 8. My search to find a surgical oncologist to perform an MRI and targetted Biopys, and then subsequent surgery, took almost five months, but was finally aided by getting two recommendations from a Radiologist who was familiar with the work and reputation of both Doctors, and then being fortunate to have them agree to review my records and answer questions. Finally, I read posts from prior patients regarding their experiences and journal articles regarding types of prostate cancer. I had the prostatectomy at a teaching Hospital in New York City in May, 2022. I reurn for my second post-surgery PSA test next week, Wishing you and your husband all the very best of good health, and hope you also benefit as we have from the various post surgical care issues that are openly discussed / reported upon on this Mayo network of support.

@bfg1, any improvement in the infection over the past few days?
Sometimes with non-specific urethritis no infection is found. What is the next option for treatment?

Hi Colleen,
All my tests came back negative for infection so I stopped trying any anti fungal meds.
I’m noticing a slight improvement but still sore and red. I see a urologist in about 2 weeks at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center who specializes in post prostate cancer treatment problems. I had RP robotic 1 year ago, no radiation and no recurrence as of yet. I’m going to have another psa check by the end of October. Thanks for asking.
