No appointment scheduled for my labs at Mayo...??

Posted by dazlin @dazlin, Mar 26 10:51am

I go to Mayo in Jacksonville Florida...I was diagnosed with a low count MGUS, several years ago. I automatically scheduled for all bloodwork every year, or sometimes 6 mos. Now for some reason I have not been scheduled for over 1 & 1/2 years. I wrote to my care team and haven't gotten a response...just asking if I no longer needed labs done.
Has anyone noticed changes in their system or know if they're scheduling automatically??
I'm not asking for an appointment, just wondering if they changed something. I have check ups with my primary, everything looks fine...however they don't do mgus testing
I'm also told I have a very slight risk of progression.
Thanks, if anyone knows if Mayo stopped scheduling.
One thing I've noticed for sure, is since there's a new CEO, and since covid, they don't seem to be so hands on as they used to be...kind of disappointing .

It is a shame your care team has not answered. To my knowledge, the process for reoccurring's tests has not changed. When you see a provider, they initiate the request for a test or appointment at future date. I was supposed to have 3 month recheck recently and I never got notice to schedule, so I sent portal message and for some reason, the order never made it to scheduling desk. Not sure if provider forgot to order or there was another reason, when I followed up with provider, it got scheduled.

I suggest sending another portal message, if still no response, call to find out what happen. They can look at past notes to see if it was ordered.

Do you know if the provider who ordered test previously is still with Mayo?

@roch, yes, my Dr is still with Mayo. I may send another message to ask if I no longer need testing. I was put through sooooo much tests over the years, including a bone marrow biopsy which showed 3-4 % abnormal cells. Yet the last few years my kappa/lambda ratio, has returned to normal, along with everything else. Only thing, I have a low white blood count, they're not concerned. They haven't quantitated an M spike, like before, ...just saying trace. So maybe I don't have it anymore...🤷‍♀️. Thank you for your reply, I hope you stay well !!

@steiner ...I have messaged my care team again...last week. Just asking if my Dr no longer is requiring tests. I have not heard back. I guess I don't have MGUS anymore 🙏

Did you check the provider notes from your last visit to see if it included any notes about follow-ups? If you do not hear from care team next week, I suggest you contact Patient Experience. They can work with you / care team to get your questions answered. Even if provider was out of office, someone on care team should be checking portal messages.

@roch, the follow up notes were from a nurse that I last saw for my labs...it says, continue surveillance, then says, As needed.
Also she included that MGUS is undetectable.
Yet the dr, or lab tech...red flagged it...as being abnormal.
I realize it's a small trace amount...so im still guessing I don't need to be followed any longer...??
Few years back my bone marrow biopsy showed 3-4 % atypical plasmacytosis. I've never needed any treatment either....and all my basic bloodwork has been normal from my primary dr.
I'll see if I hear anything this week. Thank you for the info...I may have to call.

@roch, So far, again, no reply back since last week from my care team.
I specifically mentioned my drs name too.
I think this says something about them...disappointed and certainly changes not for the better.
I'm not going to try with them anymore.

I’m sorry to hear that……. I do think I would follow it up and get my bloods done. Also I prefer to speak with my Consultant after my bloods are done every 4 months but that’s my personal preference. Take care.
