Nipple tenderness

Posted by shannon944 @shannon944, 1 day ago

I had a lumpectomy a little over 3 weeks ago and I am experiencing nipple sensitivity, even my shirt brushing against it hurts, anyone else having this problem and if so what did you do to help?

I also had lumpectomy May 2025. It was located at 3:00 o’clock position between breast bone and nipple. Yes sensitivity was there. Lotion helped. Loose sports bra. Bought a mastectomy pillow on Amazon to use in car. Bed. Sitting in chair. Even though I didn’t have a mastectomy. Lymph node removal was tender. It helped. https://a.co/d/0ia9HA2R
Under arm was the hardest. Used pain relief oils and creams for underarm to elbow area. I was discouraged at 3 weeks. Then week 4 hit and I was much better. Hang in there. You’ve got this!

Hello @shannon944 I had a pretty large tumor removed at one o clock on my right breast, and it made my nipple super sensitized for a long time. Nerves are such a funny thing, when you cut one it affects something several inches away. I wore a little cotton pad inside my sports bra for a while. It was actually a makeup remover oval. Then for the longest time I was never without my sports bra. Eventually a soft t shirt was good, then I quit noticing it at all.
There might be zings and zaps and tingling or crawling sensations for a while, but rest assured, it won’t last forever.
Have you talked to your surgeon about this?

Yes! I had oncoplastic surgery on the right with a reduction and a reduction on left - both spared my nipples... But boy were the tender. I tried stuffing socks in my bra one night out of desperation in the early days! Then make-up remover pad (small cotton circle)... at a post op visit the surgeon suggested nursing pads.. They worked, I bought the reusalb kind (pack of 10?) for about $10 rather than a huge case of disposabe ones. They are very soft and a bit larger so did not shift around as much. Now week 8+ and so much better. Still get zaps and zings etc. Surgeon says that will happen for a long time. Also - the bra band was very irritating, my insicion went from one under arm across to the other....
