I've lost all motivation, no sex drive, depressed. Ideas?

Had surgery a little over a year ago and have lost all motivation, no interest in sex, depressed. Looking for suggestions on how to get motivation back. As some know sometimes they say nerves will be saved and they aren't, suggestions on pumps, pills give me headaches, something to try to wake them up. I'm also doing research on penile surgery, I'm desperate. Hard to keep it going.

I can only comment on depression. I'm on monthly shots of Degaralix and daily intake of Abiraterone and Prednesone. All this after 26 radiation treatments. The depression that comes over me is very disconcerting to the point where I feel useless and hopeless. The best remedy I've found is exercise. I work twice a week with a personal trainer and try to do some exercises daily on my own. It's not a 100% recovery, but there is significant change in my outlook when I finish.

I had surgery in September 2019. I was put on Viagra after the catheter was removed. I take it every morning like a vitamin. That gives me a 4-hour window for activity. If I go past that, I have taken a second pill. They take about 45 minutes to kick in. I don't think I'd have much success without them and at 30 cents a pill, how could I go wrong? It was explained to me, if you don't use it, you'll lose it. I also bought a penis-extending device for $500 to maintain length during the healing process.

Stoney, what brand or apparatus did you use as penis-extending device? I appreciate your input

So sorry to hear of your struggles. It's been almost 8 years for me since surgery and there have been many ups and downs. I too find that exercise is a game changer in terms of energy levels and mood for me. I forced myself to do it and now I look forward to it each day. I mix it up with cardio while watching Netflix, walks in the woods and on beaches when on vacation, weights, mowing the lawn, etc.

I believe the right diet is based on each individual, but for me, cutting out heavy foods and meals makes a big difference as well. I am mostly plant based with some seafood.

I still use a pump a couple times a week to keep the blood flowing, but I use Trimix injections for intercourse. Some days its a real struggle while on hormone therapy. But even if I am missing sex drive, I think the closeness is good for my marriage and it makes me feel better afterwards.

I wish you the very best. Hang in there and don't give up. Despite the ups and downs, I am more grateful for life now that I was at the time of my initial diagnosis (and I have had 3 reoccurrences since surgery).

I just received my first Trimix prescription. I haven’t had surgery but rather radiation and hormone therapy. I’m waiting with regard to penile implant to see whether I function more normally after ADT ends I exercise daily, but have little energy afterward for home projects. Definitely ask your doctor regarding antidepressant recommendation. Wishing you the best!

I agree with those who have emphasized the importance of exercise. It was a godsend for me. When I go to the gym, lift weights, and especially when I progress in weights or reps, it is joyful. At first I had to force myself to exercise, but once I got started, I was so happy.

I had radiation (44 sessions!) and ADT. Age 74, Gleason 9, decipher 0.92, so pretty serious. I have had almost zero testosterone for about two years, the result of ADT. My PSA has stayed < .02 the whole time. I took two 6-month Elegard shots, and my testosterone has still not come back after a year. About six months ago, I asked my urologist about TRT, since my PSA is remaining almost zero. That's when he suggested trying Clomiphene first, to stimulate natural production. My T level is now very slowly rising; six months ago, it was "< 11" at start of Clomiphene, then it went to 13, then 19, now 39. The low end of normal T is 300-350, so I have a long way to go. I'm not sure I have the patience to wait a long time for it; at 74 I might not have much time left.

In the bad old days of ADT I was depressed and anxious, feeling broken. I didn't take medication for it, just lifted weights and walked 3 miles a day. The exercise is what helped me. The gym is now my happy place.
