New lump other breast

Posted by kluckett75 @kluckett75, Jul 23 4:28pm

Three months postop lumpectomy on right for ER+, PR+, HER2- ILC , node negative. Finished 19 sessions of radiation 2 weeks ago. Started tamoxifen this week and everything seems to be going ok then I find a lump in my other breast...has this happened to anyone...I don't want to start this process over, I just finished..

This is terrible news. I had a recurrence on my chest wall 2 weeks after a unilateral mastectomy. I can’t believe they were giving me a choice of a lumpectomy. That would have been a huge disaster. As a result of a botched surgery and being undertreated I had to get really involved in my treatment ( full time job). I was seriously worried about the other breast and wouldn’t move forward with reconstruction until it was removed. Both breasts are now gone and I have double recovered which looks amazing. The surgeon who took off the other side told me that a prophylactic mastectomy reduces BC to 5%. Unfortunately, you need to go back for more aggressive treatment. If they had taken them both off you wouldn’t be experiencing this. It is a blessing that you found it and can address it immediately. I had chemo, radiation, and hormone therapy. I take an AI (which reduces the cancer recurrence by 50%) and a CDK 4/6 inhibitor ( which reduces recurrence by 33% or an absolute value of 7 %). My cancer was very aggressive grade 3 with a 70% chance of distant metastasis. So the hormone meds are amazing. My recommendation is to return to surgery and take both breasts away. It is my understanding that surgery is 56% of the cure. Wishing you the best on this extended journey.

2003 rt breast IDC, ILC, positive nodes---ER+PR+HER2-....chemo, radiation, Aromasin 5 yrs.
2025 left breast DCIS, LCIS, L hyperplasia (3 sites) I am back on Aromasin.
I had 22 good years and I feel fortunate even with this new diagnosis.

Remember not to jump to any conclusions with a new breast lump. Have it checked out. It could be nothing to worry about. If it is, then you found it early and will have it taken care of. Of course you dread the thought of going through all of that again, especially having just finished radiation. I wish you the best possible outcome and please keep us posted. Stay strong and positive!

Hoping you have excellent outcomes on all- as I read your post you are HER2 neg and Estrogen & Progesterone positive N Nodes- and you had 19 rounds of radiation? I thought target radiation is 5trstmrnts if tumor is small with same diagnosis?
Thanks

When the lump appeared on my chest wall I thought it was a bone. My daughter encouraged me to see a doctor. I called my oncologist and was ghosted. I then went to my primary doctor who gave me a requisition the lab. I then drove in minus 40 degrees Celsius on icy highways and showed up at the surgeons office unannounced. He thought it was suspicious but also maybe a bone. When I went to the ultrasound lab they immediately gave me an emergency biopsy which confirmed cancer (apparently this was on the CT scan that the radiologist didn’t see). Maybe your primary doctor can get the ball rolling faster with a requisition to the lab tomorrow (that way you don’t have to live with this all weekend and can get things moving faster). The United Stated might work similar to Canada. I am glad you can see the surgeon on Monday to get a plan. Best wishes,
Jacqueline

Well I met with the surgeon & she felt it was related to radiation but she still sent me down for ultrasound. Went for ultrasound & the tech had the probe on my chest for less then a minute and said I'll send these to the MD to be read. I was like are you
serious, did you even find the freaking spot..She comes back, ok normal tissue, there is nothing there...And I said well it doesn't feel like normal tissue and I feel something there..so maybe I'll have to get another option...So in 2 weeks I see radiation oncologist and I will see what she thinks..By the time I got home I was very upset and frustrated...Thanks for listening

It’s really good that you met with the surgeon. She felt something. Apparently, even the best trained of clinicians can’t feel lesions that are less than 1 cm. Did she feel the lump and attest to its presence? And how could it be from radiation if the radiation took place other side? It sounds like the ultrasound person could was dismissive and did not take your concerns seriously. I would go back to the ultrasound office and ask to speak to the manager and the radiologist on site. I have done this and the people are generally very sympathetic. It’s not fair that you have to wait two weeks to see someone else with such serious concerns and misgivings. Perhaps go back to the surgeon and tell her that the person on gave you 2 minutes. There is also an MRI. Good luck. I hope it’s nothing and it could be nothing. But you need to get to the bottom of this for peace of mind. I don’t blame you for being upset. If it were me I would go back to the ultrasound office first thing tomorrow morning and call the surgeon for a follow up ASAP. Wishing you the best!

I had multiple areas too, but chose AI instead of radiation. I'm 77 ,don't know what that will mean down the road but I did'nt want to put my body though it. We can only hope we made the right dicision with the info we have.
