New Info on Taking Verzenio as Monotherapy

Posted by jardinera25 @jardinera25, Apr 29 2:24pm

I was asking 'AI-Guy' if there were any opportunities to take Verzenio alone, and not with a hormone blocker. My Doc says it always has to be taken with a hormone blocker. This article popped and it appears that under certain circumstances it is now approved by the FDA as a monotherapy. I cannot take hormone blockers, I've tried 3 and have serious side effects. So I'm going to investigate this more, to see if "advanced" must always involve metastasis. Good news possibly for some of us.

Hmmm, the link is not highlighting for me. Hopefully it will.

@californiazebra Thanks for your reply and telling me your story. I'm on Octreotide for Carcinoid tumors, or Neuroendocrine Tumors (NETS). The AI's I took for BC had the effect of giving me labile hypertension, which I'm stuck with now. I think there may have been an interaction of the Octreotide used against the seratonin hormone in my system, and the AI's blocking my estrogen & progesterone. Whole lotta hormone blocking going on!
I don't want to ignore how my Cardiovascular system is doing, trade one big problem for another. Well, let's see if another Doc has any ideas.

Hi Patty. Side effects are so frustrating. Don’t you love that the oncologist said Verzenio wasn’t doing much for you anyway? Then why give something with harsh side effects if the benefit is minor? When I stopped the Kisqali after 5 years, I asked if it was safe to stop. My oncologist said, “yes, the Letrozole is doing all the heavy lifting anyway” as if Kisqali didn’t matter. Then why did we damage my heart with Kisqali and make me immunocompromised for 5 years not to mention the extreme fatigue and hair thinning? The constant afib is a huge deal not only impacting quality of life during episodes but blood clots from afib caused several retinal TIAs and two cognitive TIAs (mini strokes) so now I’m on blood thinners for life hoping a cardiac ablation will stop the afib. Very frustrating.

Doctors have no skin in the game so they definitely see things differently than the patient. Best of luck to you with both cancers. ❤️
