First of all are you on a nerve health specific diet? Try to eat the nerve health super foods often. Research the superf foods. Avacodos salmon, spinach, broccoli and tart cherries are some of them. More importantly is what not to eat. Like most sugars including sugar substitutes, I only use maple syrup rarely a little honey. Avoid unhealthy fats, especially oils. Try to only consume olive oil. If something uses a different oil make it yourself with olive oil (mayo, salad dressings,etc...) There's a lot more to it but it's basically a strict enhanced healthy diet. Lean protein, fat free dairy, whole grains, nuts and tons of fruits and vegetables. Nothing processed (avoid everything in a box or can). And obviously zero alcohol (the reason I have neuropathy). My diet has been my best medicine so far.

Thanks for your detailed suggestions.
I eat a clean diet and since July have chosen to eat Whole Food Plant Based exclusively which is no added sugar, no saturated fats, no meat fish dairy or alcohol. High in cruciferous veg and beans! Lots of tofu and lentils for protein!

Have you talked with your doctor or neurologist to see if they can suggest a treatment that might help provide some relief?

Acupuncture gave me some relief in my footpad but then tips of both feet and fingers got worse. I am having problems with my balance walking, opening jars, dropping things because I no longer have the gripping strength.
I tried massage as well as acupuncture and it was soothing but not long lasting.
Even the 20% dose reduction didn’t help:(

Gabapentin helps me though i know a lot of people don't like it. I'm 84.

@mtstack
I have been eating a plant based healthy diet for 8 years; I still got neuropathy in a matter of about 8 to 10 weeks last year. I ate very little processed foods. I think a healthy diet is important, but it really does not explain why we got it in the first place, unless you are deficient in some vitamins or minerals or have B6 toxicity. Always supplement B12 if vegan.

I have posted earlier comments on this site looking for solutions. I am now trying low dosage Naltrexone to get off the larger dosages of gabapentin recommended by all the neurologists. I have the constant burning in my mid section, legs and arms. I have reached out to Dr. Anne Oaklander at Mass General who referred me to Dr. Marinos Dalakas at Jefferson Hospital but I have to check first if there is anything new to offer as living in Pittsburgh it is a challenge for me to travel with my condition. Went to Cleveland Clinic but all they offered is more gabapentin. At 80 years old I think maybe it is my time. Hard to keep up the strength.

@donhills2113 I’m not as stringent as you suggest but I eat quite healthy usually have spinach and avacodo and nuts around. But that doesn’t explain what happened. I have some neuropathy in my feet and legs and do take some gabapentin so I can live with that. I’m hoping the EMG helps get a diagnosis! Thanks for your comments. scared002

@scared002 I'm 71 and have had neuropathy since a cancer diagnosis over a decade ago. Gabapentin left me disoriented and I had a fender-bender, which I interpreted as a sign to get off of it. Vitamin B12 really helped. Though I'm not as stringent as Don, an improved diet has helped. I occasionally take ibuprofen, exercise regularly and try keep my feet warm. I recently tried CBD (it's legal in my jurisdiction) and it helps too. Hang in there and try to be open to trying different things (as long as they don't hurt you). My neuropathy hasn't progressed for years. Yes, it's somewhat painful at bedtime and often hard to fall asleep but otherwise I live a normal life ... except for my afternoon naps. LOL

@mtstack Sounds like you've established a great diet that works for you. I was only diagnosed two months ago. I've gone from barely walking with miserable pain to walking with little aid with tolerable pain. I owe it 90% to diet(and quitting drinking) and exercise of course. Good luck to you, let's beat this! ✌️❤️🙏
