Neuropathy & Exercise

How have you received enough physical exercise while dealing with neuropathy?? Do you walk in spite of the condition; tiptoe to get around; particular exercise program, etc.?

Re: Food and Neuropathy ... I have been eating jalapeno and poblano peppers lately ... I have been waking up with more than usual pain in my legs. It could be unrelated, or, the capsaisin in my bloodstream might be aggravating my nervous system ... it's plausible. Have any of you noticed any correlation between pain levels and what you've been eating? Any foods that consistently seem to cause more pain, or, less pain? Peggy

Hi @pfbacon— I enjoy hot and spicy foods. I did not notice any changes in my neuropathy pain. My husband and I often eat Mexican foods like tacos and quesadillas with the hot salsa. Additionally, we have plant based hot italian sausages twice a week.

I find it very necessary to walk every day as it not only helps my SFN but it helps me to sleep sounder. Overall it helps at least as much as the Gabapentin and NSAIDs.

Thanks for that info -- I like peppers too so I'm hoping that they didn't cause the upsurge in pain. Anyone else? Have you noticed any correlation between upsurges in pain and certain foods that you eat? Peggy

@pfbacon You got it Peggy! I have been on a salsa/chipotle and blue tortilla chip kick.. it's not doing me any favors. Both salt and spice I'd imagine, but, oh sooo good!

My husband drags out the humongous bag of tortilla chips every day at lunch. I have to severely limit my sodium, so I just listen to the crunch, crunch, crunch sound he makes while a look of utter contentment washes over his face. I miss my salty treats, but I can’t have them anymore.😩

Jane, I've cut way back on salt as well. However, my bigger challenge is limiting anything with sugar. My dentists fawn when they have me in the chair...and why not? I've sent their kids to college, built their outdoor pools and shortened their years to retirement. Any small thing to keep the economy going, yes? Smiles

The cure for too many jalapeños in a dish, when your mouth is on fire, is to pour a heaping spoon of sugar on your tongue. It puts the fire out - kazoom! I love sugar and chocolate. Sometimes I pour sugar on my tongue for no apparent reason.
