Need transplant, don't have a caregiver: How to find a caregiver?

Posted by cwendel77 @cwendel77, Nov 13, 2022

I have been on the kidney transplant list for 2 years. My wife was going to be my primary caregiver after surgery and my mom agreed to be my secondary. Now, things have changed and neither are an option for me. I don't have any friends or coworkers that would take that role either. Are there any options for someone in my position?

Hello to All and best wishes,
I had kidney failure in May 2023, after a couple of months I was approved for the waiting list. My wife tested and actually matched me,I now have a living donor. Several family members all volunteered to be the caregiver. Now roughly six months later, each one has had a life event or commitment or just can'tor WON'T. I feel lost. The excuses we're I'm going through a divorce (friend), my job will fire me (son), I can't miss church (mother), It's peak COVID season (niece), your mother doesn't like being alone (dad), I got a new job (sister), I'm looking for a job (step-daughter), I just started a bowling league (daughter in law), it's not my problem (son in law).
Any suggestions?

I have 6 years experience taking care of my Dad through his heart attacks and LVAD surgery. I was approved by the VA to be his caregiver with stipend. He recently “fired” me as his health his worsening and other family members took over.
