Need help understanding the readings

Posted by scared58 @scared58, Aug 15 1:40pm

Hi a few months of knowing I have MGUS and blood levels seem stable however, my recent phone appointment was a lovely lady but not a haematologist so she couldn't give me any understanding of my results, I was just read a series of results one of which was my Kappa result which was 45. 47 I asked what it should be she said 19 that's why we are checking your blood I thought this was high enough but then googling it I read that Kappa result should be between 3 and 19 ! I am worried why mine is so high and if there is anything that can be done to lower it

I was diagnosed with CLL 3 years ago. Blood tests, MRIs, two units of blood, 4 infusions of Ribitaux (sp?) and more blood tests plus pills. According to my Doctors I am trending up. I have no symptoms which is good but now get monthly blood tests instead of every three months. I do my best to not think about my condition and have a positive attitude. At times my ability to think overcomes my ability to have a positive attitude.
But I have CLL (age 77) and just deal with my condition. Having a positive attitude is a very important thing to have.

Well my Kappa is 143.4. My Lambda is 75.4 and ratio 1.9. I have some significant inflammatory issues which likely the cause of high #s. As long as ratio is near normal and M protein stays low, now at .5, my hematologist is just monitoring it. How is your ratio?

Yes I am mostly staying positive but do have the odd anxious moments
I am not sure what you mean by ‘trending up’ so
I hope this is a positive thing.
