Need anyone's help: vulvar cancer and weakened bladder

Posted by boxermomma @boxermomma, May 15, 2017

Hi, i have a serious question.
Many years ago, i had vulvar cancer twice. Ive had surgery, chemo and radiation treatments. All of that has tremendously weakened my bladder and rectal spincter . i had my bladder tacked up and i have urinary incontinance and bowel incontinance. I take meds for my bladder but my gastroenterologist recommends me having biofeedback for my bowel problems.

My question is, has anyone ever had this problem and had biofeedback therapy and does it work? The reason i ask, is that i will have to travel 5 hours daily for treatments. If it isnt as good as my drs say, i dont want to waste my time daily. Please help!!

Is there any way you can find a therapist in your area or qualify for a therapist to come to your home? I do not have your particular problem, but I have used biofeedback and physical therapy as well as counseling for several painful autoimmune disorders I have and I can honestly say it offered me some relief. I would do it again. However, I, personally, could never drive 5 hours. My illnesses would not allow me to do so! You are in my prayers, and I truly hope you find some thing closer to your home!

I understand you not wanting to travel that long each day if biofeedback doesn't work. But on the other hand what if it helps and you don't give it your all?
Boxermomma, when do you go to your first appointment?

Thanks so much for your prayers. I myself have numerous autoimmune problems and i also cannot handle traveling for that many hours, my joints would totally freeze up on me. There is nothing closer to home. Thinking about yoga and meditation at home.

Thanks for your advice. I've cancelled my appointment but the hospital will schedule me if i decide to go in the future. My urologist is getting in touch with a therapist he knows to see if she does feedback therapy for my intestinal issues. She works with patients with blafder issues but not sure about my problems. Again, thank you for your suggestion.
