Neck and shoulder pain after fusion surgery-techniques for reducing?

Posted by garygg @garygg, Nov 18, 2022

I had C3-C6 fused in my neck over a year ago and still am experiencing stiffness and pain in the neck and shoulder muscles. Does anybody have similar experiences and solutions for alleviating some of the pain?

@ccchang Cori, the difference by a typical massage and myofascial release is that the therapist pushes to the barrier to create a gentle shearing force and holds that and just waits for the fascia to unwind itself. It needs to be a slow gentle sustained stretch and it may take 5 minutes just holding that position. It changes as it releases and the therapist may push in another direction. They can feel the tense pathways through the body. You can learn more in our discussions here on Connect about MFR and at myofascial release.com

@jenniferhunter Oh shoot, it sounds wonderful, but it's hard to find practitioner.

@jenniferhunter I live on Oahu and don't see any therapists on the MFR list, but perhaps I could travel to visit one in California. Do you know any good ones there?

@ccchang If you call the practice called Therapy on the Rocks in Sedona Arizona, they may be able to direct you to therapists who have trained with them. Not everyone pays for a listing on the MFR website. Surely there are therapists in California that you can find on the search. I don’t live there or have knowledge about them. Sedona isn’t that far from California if you wanted to go to Therapy on the Rocks. They may be expensive, but I have heard that they may have discounted rates during monsoon season when patients are less apt to visit. I think there are certified people in Hawaii. You can access information through myofascial release.com .
