Navage Portable Nebulizer

Posted by annalaine @annalaine, 17 hours ago

Has anyone used the Navage brand portable nebulizer? My follow up appointment at the UVA Bronchiectasis clinic is in six weeks and the doctor said at the last visit she would probably want to do a bronchoscopy if I wasn’t able to provide a sputum sample in between. I would prefer to avoid the bronchoscopy if possible so I am going to focus on trying to get a sputum sample including trying the nebulizer with saline. Just wondering again if anyone had used the Navage one? It is just a small one with the face mask which I think is okay for my purposes.

Would it be possible to post a link to what you are using?

I am just thinking of getting it. It is on the Navage.com website. They’re the company that makes the nasal irrigator. I have that and it very helpful for congestion. They are now selling a portable nebulizer. I don’t think it would do for those that nebulize everyday but for my purpose I think it might work.

@annalaine I would find out first if the mesh head and mask can be boiled or microwaved to sterilize, many of the small handheld units cannot. The "self-cleaning cycle" they often recommend, typically using distilled water, will not kill mycobacteria or pseudomonas.

Ok thanks for the tip - will research.

Just looked at the online owner’s manual. Disinfection is with isopropyl alcohol soak. Is that ok?

I was also wrong about it not having a mouthpiece. It does. Lots of learning curves on all these things.

@annalaine Good detective work! Yes, I believe that meets the requirements for disinfection.

@sueinmn

Thanks and thanks again for the reminder to check about proper disinfection methods before purchasing.
