Nano Knee Replacement
Has anyone else had a Nano Knee replacement? I will be postop three weeks tomorrow. I have been walking without Walker or cane after the first few days. Only problem at night is that my leg will heat up like it is on fire and I have to get up and ice it. Then I go back to sleep and another hour or two the cycle repeats. How long will this last?

I am 8 weeks out from tkr. Still very swelled. Should I be worried?
I had the Nano Knee replacement...3 weeks today! I am walking my dog, doing my PT, up & about usually around 5,000-6,000 steps a day. I am still very bruised & slight pain during the day. Most of my swelling has gone . However, every single night, I waked up aching & have to ice. Unable to sleep fr the past 2 weeks....so tired!
Purchase an ice machine STAT. Fill up large yogurt containers to make big ice cubes. Wrap your knee when you go o bed with the ice machine. Let it soothe your knee all night long.
Take a pain pill before bed for sure as well. Are you allowed NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti inflammatories like Ibuprofen...). Make a medication schedule for pain control.
I have an ice machine that I brought home from the hospital. I use it several times a day. I take advil every night before bed. I am now 9 werks 3 days out and the swelling is down and I am riding my recumbent bike on a daily basis.
Should not be that swollen that you can not exercise or function…. But yes you have reason to be concerned…. Try mfr that brings down swelling tremendously… good luck I hope works out better for you than myself ….
What is mfr?
Mayofacial release therapy it is very helpful …. I found out about if here on mayo , I found a therapist trained by Dr Barnes which is the father of the therapy ….helps with swelling and pain …. My first surgery did not find out about mfr until later my second surgery was doing before and after surgery minimal swelling and pain…. Online look up Dr Barnes mfr therapy you can find list of therapist in your area…. Good luck
Thank you. Unfortunately, it is not available in my area but good to know if it becomes available
Most physical therapists in an outpatient setting are able to perform myofascial release and other soft tissue techniques. John Barnes is a physical therapist that developed the concept and techniques of myofascial release.
As a physical therapist myself and someone who has had both knees replaced, I can say that no one particular thing is the answer when going through the rehab after this surgery. You just have to do all the things suggested: Exercise; stationary bike; frequent ice and elevation; etc. Soft tissue work can be helpful as well and you can learn techniques that you can perform yourself at home from your PT.
Is this the same thing as deep tissue massage? I have had that for my shoulder and it worked wonders. The thought of having knee surgery terrifies me, I have been watching too many youtube horror shows. I have been working on strengthening my glutes and that is a quick fix but doesn't last. I can't walk very much without being in horrible pain. My next plan of action is to start going to the pool at the fitness center. Thank you so much for your suggestions.
